    Can you define Web 2.0

    Hi,

My question is what web 2.0 is?

Is it about only social sites or other than social networking and social bookmarking sites?

as far as i'm concern web 2.0 can be described as people can have full authority to control the web pages.. you can put your own ads, links, etc and you will get benefits from it, to get more clearer view, please visit web 2.0 such as Squidoo and HubPages

It seems people have different ideas about this. Even the Wiki page says there isn't a technical specification for this.

I thought web 2.0 is mainly about information sharing and website users communicating more passively with each other " on site ". I guess best example should be Facebook and Youtube.

i thought that Facebook can be similar as social network, i dont know it also can be described as web 2.0, so is that social bookmark can be explained as web 2.0? i don't think so

Facebook is a web 2.0 site. If you need to get an better idea about web 2.0 read the Wiki page.

if we are at web 2.0 what was web 1.0? and what will 3.0 be?

I see a lot of people using the term web 2.0, but there is no real definition, some people claims their design is web 2.0 some says it has something to do with the next generation of IM.

I would rather like to know who first said web 2.0 and let him/her define it if possible. :-)

I went to wiki again. This is what they have to say about it:

The term Web 2.0 is associated with web applications that facilitate participatory information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design, and collaboration on the World Wide Web. A Web 2.0 site allows users to interact and collaborate with each other in a social media dialogue as creators (prosumers) of user-generated content in a virtual community, in contrast to websites where users (consumers) are limited to the passive viewing of content that was created for them. Examples of Web 2.0 include social networking sites, blogs, wikis, video sharing sites, hosted services, web applications, mashups and folksonomies.
You can read more here: Web 2.0

So, in a nutshell web 2 allows people to interact with a website and others on the website. In design it basically just means simple is better. It was "coined" by Darcy DiNucci in 1999. Very clever chika I think

In my opinion all the web sites that have interaction features and have the user control operations are considered as web 2.0 sites.

Its basically a different way to represent the web in a better looking and easier to use fashion. Just google "Web 2.0 buttons" to get an idea from the graphical side.

Web 2.0 for me is the internet with new content, and different type of sites.. But when you go to talking webdesign 2.0 it changes a ton..

Webdsign 2.0 changed a lot.. To be considered a web design 2.0 it has gradients, drop shadows and glows and all that cool stuff.. I know myself and a couple of my friends are working on 3.0 designs right now it should be really cool

I think the easy way to explain web 2.0 is:
Community based and/or connected to a community, interaction between users/visitors/members, a network of people with mutual interests.
The design is another story indeed...
