Can I use social networking sites for link building?

Well, I know the differences between social bookmarking and social networking sites.

My question is can I use social networking sites also for link building purposes, if so then how?

I see that there are lots of internet marketer, affiliate marketers, small business men on Facebook and Twitter promoting their business and websites but what about link building they are also doing link building too?

as far as i'm concern, if you put your link at facebook profile or fanpages. it would not give juice at all, but it's ok for traffic purposes... in my opinion social network just good for traffic purposes and branding your business.

Exactly - stuff like Twitter and Facebook is good for traffic. But sites like Digg can help backlinks.

In the comment put relevant comments related to the discussion on this network and if you think your own content on your own site has added value, then put a link to your article.

Absolutely agree. If you take active part in social networks it can give you a lot of backlinks and traffic.

You don't really even need to link wheel since they are from trusted sources. Twitterbacklinks.com will get you links from twitter while there are plenty of fake like services. For fb I like using their built in ad platform since I get real visits + likes/shares versus just social networking links.

Posting links in FB and Twitter and all those is great for temporary traffic, but if you want legit traffic that might have people that are interested you are going to want to look into advertising on forums that are active and related to your niche.. For example if I have a gaming forum I'm going to look for another gaming forum and advertise there.. Just look around lots of places like forums and headers to advertise your site at.
