    Question What is Blog Roll?

I don't understand Blog Roll, or at least I don't think I understand it. I have some blogs on Blog.com which I really like the format because of the way they allow anchor text.
They have a section for Blog roll and I may show my ignorance here but here it goes....... does blogroll alternate anchor text between different links? Hush... stop snickering... I hear you over there. Lol. I don't know I tried researching it and I am just having trouble comprehending it!

I think blog roll can have only links so it was good when it was the time to sell links without content.

    Joe,

As a direct answer to your question, the roll in BlogRoll is in the sense of roll call not roll over (Rover). Like footer links, blogroll links show on every page of the blog. The original purpose of the blogroll was to list other blogs in which the blog owner was interested. It was abused by link sellers in the past but is likely to do more harm than good these days. I don't think that WP includes a blogroll section in their recent themes.

In the admin panel of wordpress, there is an option to add links so I think those links go in blogroll. If this option has been removed recently then I may be wrong because I have not updated my wordpress in past few months. I saw many blog owners are still selling links so if this option has been removed then how these blog owners are still able to sell links on every page. Please tell.

You could still add links by editing the sidebar.php file (or whatever it is called in your theme). The add links routine in the UI just makes it easier.

If I were doing it I would use a php include and just edit my include file. That way you would only need to find the place that you want the links once and if you decided to move or disable them it could be done more easily.

Will it be safe to edit the PHP file? How can we restore if the code gets deleted by mistake?

The .php extension tells the server to run the file through the php parser. The file is primarily html code with some php operations. You can edit the html portions easily if you know a bit about html.

If you have a copy of the theme files on your computer it will contain the default file. If you don't have a local copy of the theme you can download a copy of the file before making changes to use as a backup for the original file.

blog roll links are non-static links on a wordpress or other platform link... they are not permanent but are usually text bases... they still have value but not as much as other in content links do... they show up though out an entire blog, but again are non-static, so the links change... in other words if your link is on a blog roll, it is sharing the page with other links and is not permanent!

    hope that helps

Is a blog roll anything like a sandwich roll? Does it contain lunch meat and lettuce? Or is it only vegetarian? I like my blog rolls with lots of mustard.
