I would use anything. niche or not and also dofollow or nofollow. This way all back-links would natural. Another thing is you will able to get back links for various TLDs like gTLD and ccTLD. Everything can be helpful.
i think same as bluearrow, becasue only taking niche will be not the goal only giving. becasue you must think that niche is a niche because it is a less searched keyword, product ect....

Yes I do use Squidoo for as part of my web 2.0 property list. But links you get from these lenses are noFollow. But these lenses rank well in search result so can be helpful.

We all know that niche blog commenting really helps to increase keywords ranking but I would like to clear one thing that I have commented on so many blogs but I did not get any backlinks from them. Even I commented on .edu .org blogs but no response. Because now blogs webmaster know that we just comment on their blogs only for backlinks. When we comment on them they remove our comments of don't give us dofollow backlinks
Dofollow commenting is becoming harder these days. No one wants to pass the link juice, mods remove every comment unless it is just too good. But try is all we can do and finding do follow blogs is a hectic task itself.
Yeah it's getting harder and harder. Even if you make good unique long comments with your links in the blog owner could just remove links and keep only comments.Quote:

Mostly comments on all sites/blogs will give you no follow. But nofollow or do follow comments doesn't matter even no follow also works fine. Just try get them from High DA sites.

Actually do follow blog comments has much more effects for the website. And of course this can help to rank website keywords shortly.
Both are important do follow and no follow if you are doing only 1 thing it can affect negatively.
