Thread: Press releases, now a waste of time?

It would seem these are a waste of time now after Matt Cutts stated in a recent message on the google webmaster forum.

“Note: I wouldn’t expect links from press release web sites to benefit your rankings, however.”

What Do Google Really Think About Press Releases?

Whilst interesting releases about subjects of genuine interest to real people will drive traffic, if its just for the link then we would be better off focussing efforts elsewhere.

Yes, Google now removed press release as the ranking factor. But why should we stop if it brings us visitors.

If you get traffic then its still worth doing. But if its just for link building then it wont have any impact on Serps etc so no point from that point of view.

Only worth doing on quality sites, and not the hundreds of spammy press release sites that exist purely for links

well press releases play a important keyrole in publicity and also can drive much traffic ...

I think depending what your niche, if you promoted your business place , press releases good for you ,. but if you sale something online. I would go to safe link building , since google change their panda penguin and other animal may be soon they will be changed hehehe

Press release is very useful because first it is not scam sites and second all PR are reputated sites.

Of course they don't not if you can insert a clickable link inside the press release.

You over estimate Matt Cutts, he don't want you to use press releases, article submission, forum signatures or ANY other artificial link building method, I repeat he does not want you to do that! So if he has a chance to say something like that quote he will!

According to him this is the way to get backlinks:

Write an interesting article on your website, funny and let others link to it!

Newborns know that that won't happen (not unless you're already getting traffic) plus you won't get backlinks with keyword in anchor text... so it does not take a genius to figure out that Matt's priorites are to make sure the web is "clean".

But for us doing SEO we need to get backlinks, press releases is one way to do it!
