    How good are press releases...

I haven't really been actively using press releases for SEO purposes, but I'm wondering how efective they are. and if the free PR sites would have any effect at all. I know for a fact that paid PR sites (usually max 15 dollars per PR) can be very effective. Not just for backlinks, but also for direct traffic.

What's your experience with Press Releases ?

    Andre

Sometimes i use (german) press sites, and sometimes my article get viral to other press sites too. If you search for the used keywords you'll finde the press sites often infront of your own page, later you get infront of them.

I've been issuing Press Releases for years every time I launch a new site or something happens in my business. So far I have not used any of the paid sites except free-press-release.com (where you do have to actually pay if you want to be able to place links in your copy, but its only 1 dollar per release). I have gotten some traffic from the content, I have seen Google include backlinks from the content when I do a linking search, and there has been occasions where comments were made on the Press Release which I responded to.

Hey the more content the better, right? I see it as a good way to brand yourself and your company. Just like the big boys, you can place a Press Releases section on your company website. You can submit your press release RSS feed to the aggregatars. I always rewrite the Press Release as a blog entry and post it to the appropriate blog, with a link to read the full press release. More food for the search engine spiders!

    Then it's a paid one right ?
Otherwise they'd never spread your pressrelease over other websites is my guess...

The few times I've done a Press Release - they have always shown up in my traffic referrer stats and seem to deliver eyeballs for a good long time. The problem is the KIND OF CONTENT you have to write for a successful Press Release is soooooo different than an Article, and you can't just shove spun krap out there. It may be well worth your while to 1. Possibly outsource a Fiverr gig to a competent writer who knows exactly HOW a press release needs to be written. And, 2. Get it distributed on the HIGHEST QUALITY Press Release sites possible.

This isn't about just 'getting a krappy PR0 backlink' across a mess of krappy Press directories: If you can generate a timely, relevant, truly interesting release about your industry or niche - and get it available on the top-tier PR sites - you'd be AMAZED at the high-traffic, high-PR news sites that will syndicate your release and make you 'Front Page News'.

I do extensive seo work and press releases are a must. They round out link diversity and ip diversity very nicely.
