If you are doing on page SEO then I would say that keep the word count higher and minimum it should be 500 words..
If you make only keyword bold then it doesn't look natural, you need to bold some important point within the paragraphs too.

You can also use h1/h2/h3 tags instead of bolding everything. You can then just rework the article to include a keyword in those tags. I personally don't like reading am article that has bold words all over the place. :)
I've been using wp easy seo plugin that does that automagically for you, but I think it attracted Penguin, so going back and reworking the adornments on tons of sites. For homepage on micro niche, i'll do 1000 words with 500 words for other content pages...
Keep the length of the article between 250 to 400 words otherwise the article will be so lengthy which many people prefer to ignore. So make it short, high quality and fresh to get advantages in term of traffic and back links.
That's a little too short IMHO. You're basically just warming up and getting to the subject at hand.( well for me anyway). With certain subjects, I can understand that you don't need a lot to explain it all, but many subjects, like IM, SEO, Tech (especially software), and many other business related posts I've written about, tend to look incomplete when you only have that little to say about the subject. IMHO I would say about 500 words should be a minimum.Quote:

Right now, I make a test on this issue. I make 10 posts with minimum of 1000 words and the rest is only min. 500 words. It is on working, so I can't tell the result now.
I hear that above 500 words is better for SEO? Make sure that they are spaced out properly for easy reading. I just hate articles that are so cramped together that I just do not read them at all.
Spacing them out, using headings, bullets etc. are good as well. It sets everything out for readers to go to the areas they want to read about. Helps with long posts as well.Quote:

Yes Mary I agree with your points. Sometimes it happen at the time of article submission, if the word count is less than 400-500 then it does not to allow to submit. And also by limiting the word count, you are sometimes not able to offer more options to your reader.
with the recent google changes i keep bold/italics to a min, i mean who does that really? in fact i just use straight http links now too, cuz that's what real ppl do.
As a writer, I prefer 500 word articles because they pay more. But I have people order 300 to 400 word articles that rank very well. The important part is to have unique content.
I keep all my articles with at least 300 words.
I think that bolding words helps for SEO but even more importan, it can help your reader to get key ideas or if he is skim-reading to find what he's really looking for.
What about Uderline keyword, is it better than bold ? I saw Pro seo writer do it.

400 to 500 words best length for article. You can target three keywords on one article. If you posting article on article websites so no need to do over bolding.

My landing (money) pages have length 800 - 1200 words, another posts around 500.

400 words is what ezine articles have kept as a minimum limit for approval. this is what their research gave. i perefer to have 500 words with few important titles and media if any!

Better to convey what we are trying to say as short as possible. For example, if we want to say about something in 1000 words, try to short it within 500 words. An article should make readers or users to listen the article with more interest. In any place the readers should not get feel lazy or not good of reading article.. This is the quality of an article.

Let it flow .. if it takes 800 words then so be it. If it only a 400 words then let it be. I've heard somewhere that google might find it fishy that your site has all 500 word articles. Not too sure if that is something penguin is penalizing.
According to my opinion as long as the article explains all the points explicitly, its fine with every length of article. That may be 300 words or even 1300 words. It should not matter much.
If anybody asks me about the normal length of he article I would suggest it to be minimum 500 words and upto 1200 words, though it will be too long but beyond that will make it impossible for user to read it fully, and text formatting in an article for important points is necessary absoulutely necessary, it tells the user as well as search engines that the particular paragraph or line is much important in the discussion and you can use H1-H6 tags for formatting them.
I personally write 300-500 words with three keyword separate on the article. Underline and italic is also good

When your content is fresh and relevant to your website, the quality increases. Do not put only your link but link to authority sites in your content makes it Google friendly.
When it comes word count, you cant satisfy a user query with a 200/300 word content. You need to be descriptive so you need to be at least 500 word.
I think between 500-750 words is the best.

The content should be unique, and more than 200 words, the more the better, but it is imporant not to produce text. I mean not to repeat and repeat the information again and again. "To compare intest rate is goo. So interest rates should be compared. That why I recommend to compare interest rates..." Give information and stay readable, to produce text is in my opinionand analysation also a bit DC on page, what the panda donīt like.
