According to my knowledge and many major SEO experts have been saying that except title tag, Meta keyword and Meta description have no more value as ranking is concerned. They just use as a showpiece. A statement by matt cutt in response to the question about Meta keywords is “Google does not use the keywords meta tag in web ranking”.

Google long ago (in internet time) stopped considering the keyword meta tag and has more recently stated that they do not use the description tag in their ranking algo, but other search engines may (or may not) use the information. The keyword tag was heavily abused and keyword stuffing was the problem that killed it. Even though Google does not use the data in the keyword tag there still is some marginal value to including it. Make sure that keywords are relevant to the content of the site/page.

Google does still display the content of the description tag in many cases as the text under the title in the search results. A well written description can attract searchers attention to your site and may improve your click rate once your page appears in a search result, so it is still important to write a good blurb in the description meta tag.

I agree with winkor especially regarding the description. It is very important. It may not effect ranking but it definitely effects CPR once you're on the first page especially since Google bolds the keywords and synonyms of those keywords that are being searched in the description displayed for each site making it easier for the person searching to see how relevant the site is to what they searched.

Some SE's still ue keyword tags, but its been downgraded a lot. Your description is more important, because it give them information about your site, which is shown on a google search under your site link (sometimes).

I agree. It's not so powerful anymore for SEO. Well it was, but before Panda came out.

Google Only stopped giving priority to Meta Keywords, but Meta Title and Description are way much important as before. Use of Meta Titles with character ratio of under 65 and Description not more than 200 characters.

It doesn't hurt to include them, but I wouldn't spend too much time figuring out the right keywords.

Meta description is another thing, It doesn't improve your ranking on search results or PR of your site. It is is however one of the best things how to invite user to your site. Make a 160 character long invitation, and tell what your page is about. Don't think about keywords. I usually pick something I would click myself. If it's spammed with keywords....I will look elsewhere.
