An image is like a header (<h1>, <h2>, etc) for the SE's, so giving the images a title containing your keyword(s) will improve your on site SEO.
Just don't use the same keyword for all images...vary a little with different phrases.

If you like to make SEO for a picture you must make a keyword research like for a website. If you use a picture which is named "thisismypicture.jpg" make sure the size of the picture is unique. If there are some picture in 300 x 400px make yours in other sizes. Use your Alt Tag and make a links directly to the article where your picture is and post your pictures on image sites.

Thats a really good idea, never thought of that, also photobucket may also be a good one to use too

This would be the best way by far.. Also maybe do hidden images with names.. I think that could help..

Thats a really good idea, never thought of that, also photobucket may also be a good one to use too

For Google, Picassa would probably be of greater value since it is a Google property.

Most of the bloggers are using their images on the post with same name as it is and they aren't rename it which is not a good sign for a website. Because users also searching for images and using seo tactics on images would be best for your website.

Some things about seo of image

1. Keywords in alt text, text around the image, image name, page title.
2. Preferred image formatting – jpg.
3. Separate SE accessible image folder.
4. Enabled image search option at Google webmaster tool.
5. Image file size (not too much).
