Good read, why most people fail to succeed is they don't do good keyword reseach.

keyword research is not only the main part, but making authority BL. However keyword research also plays a big role.

I have read the article for the link given above. It's good step for newbies to know about SEO. The latest issues from Mat Cutts is fresh and quality contents. Never use spinning tools anymore for content creation, cause the penguin algo can detect it.

Not just the Penguin IMHO. A site visitor can pick up on something like that really fast as well. Where it might be disastrous to lose rank from a Google update (which can generally be regained), the reputation you lose from visitors on your site/clients is a lot harder to regain.

The article is a bit out of date, so it could use a quick spruce up to take into account for the latest updates and best SEO practices, but it definitely relays good info overall, especially the section about what SEO is not.

A good keyword research is the must, and before doing some backlink, make your onpage optimisation clear, i've ranked 1st in 1500exact match keyword for just a five stars onpage optimisation.
