Hi guys!!

I need to know if I change the meta tag an my site-is this is going to hurt my SEO? Thank You!!

Meta tag such as meta title and meta keywords no more affects your SEO. But any changes in title tag and meta description will have some effects in its SERP.

Meta tags are HTML codes that are inserted into the header on a web page, after the title tag. In the context of search engine optimization, when people refer to meta tags, they are usually referring to the meta description tag and the meta keywords tag.

If you are gonna add one or two keywords more in your metas by not disturbing already keywords in metas then it would not make any difference but if you change your keywords totally then definitely all the ranking will be disappeared from the search engines when next time search engines will crawl your website.

Meta tag do indeed work for but there is more to their creation and usages that placing a bunch of keyword in to the keyword tag that you want to your website to be found for embedding them in to your website.The meta tag provides the metadata about html document.

Meta Tags in HTML is used to store information about a Web page of the website but is not displayed in a Web browser. This information in a meta tag is used by search engines to index a page so that if someone will input it the page will be able to find it.

if you dont put your target keyword on meta tag, (such meta keywords, title and description) its will hurt your web on SERPs.
so no matter to change meta tag, but still put keyword on there. hope useful

Definitely it would hurt your SERP totally then you will need to work hard again from the zero almost.

Changes to the Meta Description and Keywords are likely to have no effect on current rankings.

Don’t worry about changing your current Meta tag as long as your keyword is there. Google robot will crawl your website again and update your website information on the SERP. After Google algorithm update, this process is faster than before.

Yes it may affect your ranking. You can change the title and metas but it must be done very carefully and must include all your keywords...if its done properly you may get good ranking improvement also....

I don't agree with this. Title tag is important. This is one factor of inpage seo. This is just like H1 tag which tell u the most important keyword phrases in the page content. If your change optimize your mata tags and title then it will help you for sure.

no, it will not, perhaps could increase in SERP, but importantly keep the tags relevant. if the page is selling computers. keep the same keywords in meta tags.
I have tried to change a few regularly, it improves ranking just a little at times.

I think meta title and meta description are important, but not meta keywords. Any changes in keywords tag will have no affect in SERPs.

is there a site out there that you guys can point me to that would help me understand more about meta tags? (what are meta tags, what are they good for, and so on..)

If your already ranked keywords include in the metas then it will definitely affect your ranking.

If you changed or removed your previous keywords and implemented all new ones then Yes it'll definitely hurt you in time.

Meta keywords and description would not make any impact on your ranking but changing title can make. If you remove certain keywords from title for which your website was showing on top, it may get down. Meta keywords and description are not being considered as ranking factor.
