Yes image optimization plays important role for your website. There is less competition on images and images have good impact rather than just words.

Wow. I did not know pics are that important. I am actually using pictures from my distributor's website. I have not downloaded them to my site because of the time it will take to do so. I have the alt tags and everything, but the addresses go to another site.

yes images play an important role beacause google does not crawl images so we give keywords in img alt Tag for crawing of keywords.

Yes, I have a blog, which get 90% from the traffic over Google Images.
- every Image should have the keyword in the name and in the alt and title tags
- the size of an image is also important, google don't like 20x300 images
- it is good to use the image often in your homepage
A Google employer said that you shouldn't use low line (_) to connect your keywords to an image name, you should use hypen (-)

If we don't link the image does it still crawl able by google? Does its get indexed?

my personal experience says YEs it works great

but image optimization is kind of syndication also, people take images on google, then put it back on blog/webpage, then optimize, sometime the same over image will appear at result page, and the process is repeat

To avoiding high bounce rate, the alt text should explain the image and preferably include a keyword which clearly explaining to image.
