While researching for a keyword, when I hover the mouse cursor over the competition, I get a number... 0.57 in this case !

What does it actually mean ? Is it necessary to take that into consideration?

Only look at keyword competition to know how if there are many people bidding for the keyword using Adwords... means nothing if you are doing SEO (apart from that low competition = few bidders = lower CPC ).

It indicates the percentage of 100%. It has got 0.57 out of 0.100. I think it is good keyword and has a lot of globally search.

Its only important if you are bidding on keywords with ppc

i think its reach which is calculated by calculation of tajus ..
