Well it really depends what the words are and what the website niche is.. Usually if it's just one word it's going to be more powerful so I would have to say if it was me it would be on word.. But if I was you and you are buying keywords I would buy a whole bunch of a variety of words would be the best..

    Tip:
For the best result make sure they relate to your niche!

If you want more targeted visitors finding your site through SE's, I'd recommend using at least 3 word phrase keywords.
Longer tail keywords are proven to give better results in ranking and even sales if you're selling or promoting a product, because it's more specific than the general main keyword in that market.
Good chance you'll get a wider audience to your side in the same market, who's attention you can grab by giving away something for free.

    Post Re:

I think it will be two or three word, but It must be descriptive and low competitive. Or better you can use Google adwords keyword tool for better solution.

Single keywords are too general and probably impossible to rank for. Especially if you're trying to target a select group in a market.
With multiple word phrases you'll most likely target a much larger group than you intended, including thos who are looking for the general keyword.

if you alert enough, you can see that single keyword always own by wikipedia on 1st page of SERP.. i'm not say all of them, but most of single keyword you type in, you will see wikipedia sites first that tell the meaning of the word , is it wiki work closely with google??

I believe it's because Wikipedia has a very high level of authority since it has PR 9 and is 11 years old. The effect this has on each article page is powerful for the keywords in the title of the pages because it is attached to a domain like that with high authority. It reminds me of some of the .EDU(domains which tend to be extremely old and have high PR) blogs I've created in the past that shot straight to the first page after a week or 2 for the keyword in the title of the blog.

In choosing keyword think about something that most people commonly use to search information. In these manner it is possible that your site will rank according to your keyword.

that's true, but if you search for single keyword, beside wikipedia, dictionary site also will take place at SERP, but i think 90% of result will come from wikipedia, if it is not wikipedia, so it must come from dictionary site.. so it is just useless to target for single keyword, you are impossible to win,

    Agreed.
The longer keyword, of about 3 - 5 words, you choose, the lesser competition you would face and more chances for you to rank well in the SERPs.
As for the single phrase you would have to compete with big giants and it would take years to outrank them, that you wont like to, for sure.

i still remember, 2 years ago, some kind of scam site or blackhat site, or whatever term to describe the abuse of ranking had outrank 'facebook' keyword, when i type in the 'facebook' keyword on google search, that blackhat site owned the first page and also the first place of search engine results.. i don't know what kind of method that blackhat site utilize to outrank the real facebook website.. then after a certain hours, that blackhat site had been removed by google.

Exactly, clever black hat techniques give you an instant boost but for a very limited time period. Within days Google discards you even from their index.
On the other side, you have to be very patient but consistent with your white hat seo efforts.

The basic steps to find keyword research :
    • Identify core keywords related to the post.
    • Use Google’s Keyword Tool to find long-tail variations with search volume.
    • Search these terms in Google to identify low competition results.
Optimize and win: Optimization includes having the exact keyword phrase in the post title, meta description, and body content. The rest of the content should also be relevant to the keyword.
