It depends who your competitors are. Well it can be pretty tough if you have very active giant competitors in your keywords.
I see....am targetting for "top ten news headlines" and "current affairs"...these two....and both of them are quite high rank key words....
A search for "current affairs" in quotes returned 48.6 Million results. That term would be next to impossible to rank. Amazingly "top ten news headlines" only returned 49 results, so if you are not ranked for that one you have a serious problem. Is the site indexed?

Ya.....the site is indexed......but "top ten news headlines" returned About 1,370,000,000 results.....
Was that searching with the quotes? I just checked again and now there are 50: https://www.google.com/search?q=%22t...ient=firefox-a
With the quotes lists only the results with the exact word string. Without the quotes could return any page with any of the words - top or ten or news or headlines. If your site is not returned in the above search you probably need to work on your on page SEO.

With quotes am there on top.....but people usually search without quote na....so how can I improve with quote ranking too???
With quotes shows how many pages are optimized for the long tail phrase. With so few pages optimized for the phrase it is likely that few people search for that phrase. I put it in the adwords traffic estimator tool and came up with 320 global and 91 USA monthly searches. Even if all of the searchers visited your site you could expect only about ten visitors a day. You probably need to find other keywords that can produce more traffic and worry more about them.
There is a good thread on keyword research here: http://www.imtalk.org/f33/5715-step-...-research.html

I see......so i need to find some low competitive high traffic key words...can u suggest some for a news site like mine...???
If you use the method in the post to which I referred there will be several options listed on that first screen. The following screens help you to focus on the best words/phrases on which to focus. If there is a word of phrase on the first screen that is of interest you might also research that term using the method. Eventually you might strike gold.
I think that with a news site people are most likely to search for a specific event. Be sure that your on page SEO is good for all articles that you publish. Have the subject in the title and h1 tags and mentioned in the first sentence and last sentence of the article.
If you have a good news site look into getting it listed with Google News. I believe this gets you some priority as far as indexing and can get listings in the 'News For' section that you sometimes see in Google search results.

Also do some dofollow blog comments for your prominent keywords of the site and social bookmarking for fast indexing but make sure blog should be relative as per your site content.

How did you get the PR2 ? I do not think you can get it without having off-page and well on-page structure. Meanwhile you have to build backlinks and concentrate on your on-page first - as i do not think that any website should stay out of 100 for your selected keywords if you are having backlinking campaign. like
Submit your website into Imtalk Website Submitter
Directory Submission ( use imtalk free directory submitter to submit your website with good free tutorial )
Try to get web2.0 profiles
Do some high PR social bookmarking
Have a imtalk Super Charge bookmarks for your website
Do some high PR Blogs comments
Do some articles marketing
I am sure after this all work your website will be on Top or on better place - and you may discuss it for more better ranking any time at here
/Actually I have submitted my url to a few directories........I have done some article marketing and blog commenting....may be that's y I have a PR2.......BTW How can I get web 2.0 profiles???
Well there are some decent websites to submit your profile/blog for free and get very good quality of backlinks.
This is my old list, and i do not know if some are not working or PR is changed.

Ya....they are very much targeting.......btw how can i find my exact competitors???i mean people having a website on my niche.......
There are tools that can help you, but I do something a little simpler. I use Google. I have two ways that generally help me find competition. By typing my keyword into the search bar, and looking at the results, but to narrow it down, you could put your keyword in quotes like this : "keyword" That way google will search only for sites that have that keyword. It's a bit vague, but I have seen differences in the search results. The next step is to analyze the first ten listings as they would be your competition. be it exact or no. It will still give you an idea to work off of.
