What is the ideal amount of monthly traffic for a successful niche keyword?

I have read that the less web traffic you get the more likely you are to have found a niche, but I'm having a hard time equating that to dollars. No traffic or very little traffic = almost no sales.

Where does the happy medium come in when you are naming your website the niche keyword and expecting to get generic google traffic for ranking in the top 3 positions?

Is there a success formula like:

xxx minimum and maximum competition + between xxx and xxx web traffic = potential success

I've seen many programs that tell you niche keywords. Then, when you research the competition level, actual traffic you could get at various search page positions, and the money value of the keyword you got nothing. There must be something that I'm missing, or my expectations are too high, or ___________ (fill in the blank). I simply want something I can duplicate with a reasonable chance of success.

Any quantifiable variables that can be used to create a success formula for picking a niche keyword would be appreciated.

    Thanks for your input.

I think there is no ideal amount of monthly traffic. It depends on from where the visitors are and if the visitors find the topic and postings interesting.

So you can have 10000 visitors a month and all will be lost, if your site is not interesting. You will not get any click on adsense or a clickbank product or something else. On the other hand you can have only 500 visitors and a great site with interesting postings and you will earn a lot of money.

It all depends on your audience. If your audience aren't getting what they want from your site or it seems too much of a sales pitch they are more inclined to quickly get off of that page and find something that is more use to them. You could have 2000 unique visitors a month and still make a killing with a great site. I find its all about having great content, a site that looks pleasing and people usually get sucked in.

That's true, don't bother how much traffic that you will get, do concern about your content, whether it delivered to people or not

It depends how desperate your targeted prospects are.
If you're in a niche where there's a strong desire and you know money is spent, you can be successful with even a relatively low amount of traffic.
Other markets have lots of alternatives and you'd need TONS of traffic to make a few sales.

I also agree that there is no ideal amount of traffic.. I think the more important thing would be your conversion rate.. If you have a ton of traffic but no conversion.. It does not really help either...

I think deciding on a niche, keyword optimization, driving traffic and making a sale are four different aspects, which can affect the success of your online business each on its own.

The first step before you start your online business is to decide on a niche and this has to take into consideration several factors. If you decide on a bad niche, the chances of you succeeding are minimal even if other factors remain constant.

Secondly, keyword optimization is another very important factor, which preoccupies most marketers so as to be on the first page with an intention of benefiting from the generic traffic. This calls for some knowledge and skill of its own. If you do not optimize your keywords or keyword phrases, the chances of your website or articles being indexed among the first 20 results are minimal even if your niche is very good.

Thirdly, driving traffic is much more than just working on optimization alone. There are quite many other techniques of driving traffic to your website. As you optimize your keywords, you need also to consider applying other techniques and the onus is on you to know them.

Lastly but not least, making a sale requires you to know various techniques of turning your website visitors into buyers. It's important and very important. If you do not learn how to turn your website visitors into buyers, even if you get over 1,000,000 per month, you may end up not making any sale. It's not only about numbers, but it's about getting interested people to buy your products. This is the reason why most marketers spend much time coming out with creative ways of not only to drive traffic to their websites but also to make their website visitors to buy the products. Until you are there, the numbers of visitors may not count much if they do not translate into buyers.

It depends on the competition of the websites. you need to know how many searches are there and how much competitors are you having everyday. after all, its all about the sales or conversion that matters.
