Thread: discuss targeting keyword issue

my boss give us a keyword is "English Premier League Soccer Jersey" and i use adwords to find out that no one search this keyword ,it shows " - " !!! then i told boss , boss say "English Premier League Soccer Jersey" contains "Soccer Jersey" so......... really ?

Not sure I understand what you're saying/asking but I've just typed in your keywords without quotation marks into google.co.uk and got over 1.3 million results. With quotation marks it returns over 56,000.
On google.com I get the same amounts although on keywords research tools it shows that this exact phrase receives no searches.

thanks, i meant that adword says not a lot people search "English Premier League Soccer Jersey" , so i think build links with this anchor text is a waste of time , is it ?

If no one is searching for it, than yes, it is a waste of time, but if you are using some similar keywords(LSI) then it is good to mix this keyword in the whole anchor arsenal.

When doing your keyword research, don’t focus your efforts on keywords with high total searches per month. The majority of keywords with large searches per month aren’t necessarily buyers. Longer-tail keywords, or more specific phrases, often get less searches, but have higher conversions because the consumer tends to be looking for exactly what they are going to buy. SEOArbiter is right about low compeating keywords, they are easier to rank and converts better than broad terms, but less traffic.

It seems like a very regional type of search. You could also use Google Regional and I think there is still a site like goeseo and there was another that would provide a nice map of usage. I can't find it though.

Like I've said elsewhere, I like to use Squidoo and Hub Pages to test a niche.

Since Boss is always right, you have to targeted this keyword for this website. Now, if you wish to get some traffic for this website, you have to target some competitive and mid level competitive keywords and try to get some links so that you can get better ranking and better visibility.
