If only it was that easy!! You have to first understand what your list is interested in and then offer them what THEY want. If you have a list of people that own pink flamingos you would be wasting your time to promote a product on how to stop your dog from barking. You have to target, target, target!

What ever product/service you target, its better to target the specific people who are interested in your product/service. Use some specific call to action in your email campaign which helps to improve your conversion rate.

First off....find a market where money is spent and where there's a specific need.
research this market and participate in it by being on forums and such to find out what they're looking for and what language they speak.
Then write some report or ebook giving them what they want to know or tips on how to get what they want.

Pick your keywords widely, so you get very specific targeted prospects to your site.
Don't think you can build a huge list in a short time...it will take a lot of time and effort to build a quality list...especiall a list of buyers you can later start promoting to or sell your own products to.

if you target for dog training, then you must build squeeze page that lead to download section for free ebook or something giveaways, from there you can begin collect your list, however your squeeze page also need to have good marketing strategy as andre said earlier
