Also you can buy some cheap vps and make your own mailing server, if you know how.

You can check on Comm100 email marketing software. It is free with high delivery rate. You can also track who reads and responds after you send out the emails.

It really depends on your expertise and your budget. A good tool to use for those who need templates and a low budget, is constant contact. There are other more complex systems, but that will really depend on how well you can work these types of systems.

Just a note that with desktop apps you must be a little more careful if you have a larger list,
because your ISP will only allow certain number of emails to be sent in certain time frame,
but this is something you need to ask your ISP.

and BTW thanks alcymart for that app info

what Nemanja said at the beginning is a good way, and I have something else to tell you about your list, it is , try to gain as much as targeted email addresses. U can do this by giving a free service or by buying from a company

Sending mass emails with that kind of software will get you blacklisted and your provider will get spam complaints. In the worst case you'll get kicked by your provider.
Building a mailing list with double opt-in works best and is the safest way. Those who subscribe couldn't file a spam complaint, because they've agreed to receive your emails by cinfirming their email address.

Do you get lots of messages from lots of rediculous yahoo email addresses ? Or hotmail ? trying to get you to click a link ?
Using mass email software with bought email lists from fiverr or where ever will make you one of those and people will ignore your emails...

Be careful. Better yet...don't do it.

I get so many in my junkmail it drives me to distraction. Literally. Double opt ins seem to be the best, but you need to be really careful. Remember, people don't always like being bugged with emails, and they are REALLY skittish opening emails from people they don't know. I think that factor alone makes email marketing hard, and a person needs to be careful. Remember, you need to be able to build a "relationship" with your clients or prospective clients, or you won't have any repeat buyers and they won't refer others to your service or product.

I have a question though. I am a total n00b when it comes to email marketing, but I still think that the basic IM or marketing rules apply, no matter what aspect you use. With email opt ins, do you send them from an email account to people (like cold calling) or do you have these opt ins on your site? and which is better if both can be used?

You'll need a generally whitelisted Autoresponder service like Aweber or Imnica Mail. The sending emails is from their servers. Prospects will opt in in return for a free report or product (make sure it's quality, or they'll just simply unsubscribe immediately) and in your autoresponder preprogrammed messages (up to about 6 months is best, 2 or 3 messages every week) you keep giving them valuable content. That's how you build up a relationship with your list. Personal anecdotes work very well... :-).

There is a powerful strategy to get the most out of this, but that's a long chapter. The problem for most IM'ers here is, that it's very hard to build a reasonable sized list to promote your own or affiliate products to. Truth is, eventually the most money to make is in the list...no doubt. The advantage of having your own product is, you can build a buyers list of which most will most probably buy again...and again. There's a very specific strategy for this as well...to make them buy again. Another huge chapter...

The best way to start building a list is adswaps and giveaway events. Ofcourse you'll get a lot of freebie chasers on it, but they'll just unsubscribe anyway. The best targeted subscribers are from swaps and solo ads (if you pick your partner carefully). The problem with solo ads is that no one will swap with you if you don't have a few thousand subscribers on your list. That's why giveaway events are very usefull (nice resource: JV Giveaway Center :P). From SEO efforts you won't as many subscribers on your list as would like, so only up to a certain point the basic IM principles would apply.

I hope that answered your question...

hmmmm, so this is done almost the same way you would do cold calling then. You email people to see your products on your site? No, I don't do email marketing. , it doesn't seem really popular at all. The idea of emailing a person to try your product instead of rather having them find your page from your site or adverts around the web etc. seems sorta hectic.

The process seems easy enough, you just need to have the right attitude and personality for it, which I don't really have It's really hard working on that one catch phrase that you know someone will find hard to resist, and from some of the emails I get daily, I can see some really still struggle with them (even the pro's). Many times its about a subject I really don't have any interest in whatsoever, or its just so badly written I can tell its all about the sale and not the client.

IM's are the worst kind of clients to those that are trying to make a quick one, and out of all of them, I'm probably the hardest to convince. lol

Being an MNF user you know that James Jones does this well. The weekly webinars and the weekly $7 specials seem to be effective selling events.

You email people to see your products on your site?
I believe that Andre is saying joint venture or pay for an ad in an email with somebody that has an existing list in the niche or category of your product. The JV would be trading an email offer in your list for your offer appearing in the other list, but requires that you already have a substantial list of targeted prospects. In either case the list owner would probably assume an affiliate position in the offers presented to his list.

    AH, I see.

I still don't see how effective email marketing would really be though. Regardless of the amount of JV's you enter into, and regardless of how good your list really is, doesn't it all still fall on the shoulders of the prospective clients receiving the emails? how effective or successful is it really?

The most money online is made with email marketing. The money is really in the list. Imagine promoting an affiliate product once every week (more would probably make subscribers unsubscribe) and with the minimum of 2% conversion rate. With a real good product and swipe you can easily do 5 or 6% conversion. The bigger your mailing list, the more profit you make. That's why more and more are trying to build a huge mailing list...to promote products for commission.

When you have a buyers list the conversion can even be a lot higher and makes it easier to sell more of your own products as well.

Own products as in software, ebooks, email lists, auto approved blog lists, stuff like that? I am not sure that, newcomers should specifically stick to it though. At least not until they have built a decent list and have the knowledge to go with it all. But I can see how it would help an IM. It just seems really risky though. It's all in the list you say, but it can take a while to get that list the way you want it so you can have a guaranteed "sell" everytime.

If you set up your autoresponder sequence with valuable content and tips you'll build a certain relationship with your subscribers. This is all part of your marketing strategies I've mentioned in other threads, where you want to be unique and express your strong opinion about things. Of course you should be careful with what products you promote to your list.

Once your list reaches a reasonable size (can be a few hundred subscribers) you'll most likely make some sales with every promotion you send out. Remember that those who subscribe to your list want to know the information you're offering. That's the whole reason anyone would subscribe. Give them a lot and you'll get a lot in return for providing valuable tips and information.

I mentioned before, that it's not easy to build a huge list right away, but there ways to accelerate this. Every type of business online takes time to actually become profitable. Same for email marketing. But direct marketing (to targeted prospects) is of course a lot more effective than just SEO.
