    Forum Script help

    Hello friends,
I want to install a new forum on my blog. Please let me know which (free)forum script is the best. I do have experience of moderating a few forums in past. Kindly do post the necessary plug-ins to be installed along with the script.
    Thanks in advance

Forums always sound like a good idea, but seldom are.

I have set up several using phpBB. The software works well and has most of the features of VB. I have gotten a few dozen members, but no real conversations started. Spam and profile signups will take some time or resources.

A forum is hard to get going. You need to have a good reason to start one. How will you differentiate your forum from the many that are out there? Be sure that there is a real need for yet another forum and that there is a reason for people to sign up for your forum. The IMT tools have been a major factor in putting this forum on the map.

If you do go ahead with your forum, put just a few categories up at first and think about some paid posters or a good alternative to get some posting going on your forum. You can always add categories, but an empty forum does not make people want to join a community. Offline I have seen a couple of equivalent situations: A large bar with a few patrons is uninviting, people will stick their head in the door and then go someplace with half the number of people in a tenth of the space and think that something is really going on there. In retail, a small store jammed with products to the ceiling will often outperform a much larger store with nice spacious product displays even though the big store has more products in reality. These same principles apply to forums.
