I don't have much luck with the main SB sites these days, only the main few are worth submitting to.
So many SB accounts get deleted, mainly bookmarks are no-follow links, and main bookmark websites are oversaturated, so your bookmark will soon be on page 34567.
In my opinion it is better to submit to less known do-follow websites if you are into backlinks,
or if you are into traffic than to main players like facebook, digg, twitter, delicious, reddit...
You are right upto some extent, but if you submit your posts link to Facebook or twitter, that can really increase your google rankings.
Main SB sites have some impact, but very little, so you will need great amount of backlinks from facebook or twitter to see some results, they are good for social madia proof to google that your site is "hot", but nmothing more, expect if the backlink is not from homepage :-)
It's mostly use for the increase the traffic of your website.

When I wrote a new article/ post , I will bookmark the post at many Bookmarksites...
I Ping also the post site and after this my post is in google... sometimes after only some minutes...
It is index faster by google and increase traffic .

Social Bookmarking ain't what it USED to be, that's for sure. Alot of reasons: 1. Goog has devalued most sites across the board. 2. So many of the frickin' Pligg/Scuttle sites Crash, Burn and Vanish - or the database gets corrupted and the owners start over. Again. And Again... 3. Stuff that doesn't get voted-up often gets flush, Flushed, FLUSHED out the backend. Few seem to stick for the long-haul anymore. At least lowly, good 'ol Directory listings have some staying power.
Fewer and fewer Social sites seem to have any authority. Even for the the big players - it's all just the Yap-Yap Yada-Yada du jour and the next stream of blather tomorrow will supercede it. Still it's important to try to PARTICIPATE and get your links into that flow of real-time via Ping.fm/OnlyWire/Posterous very juicy if linked to a coupla decent free blogs you maintain.
I agree here. If you have important keywords that are stuck on Page 2 (or beyond) -- blasting to the lowly 2nd and 3rd tier do-follow social sites with with focused keyword phrase titled submissions will help move you up the keyword positions within a week or two.Quote:

Also some domain sellers use those free social bookmarking scripts to increase their Alexa rank and Backlink count of domain names. These sites don't last long. Now I use bookmarking site which later related keywords in domain name.

To my meaning, alexa rank isn't that important. If I do use a SB site its to help boost the company reputation. I feel that promoting the human factor helps prospective clients see that your company isn't just a huge site run by machinery, but that there are actual people behind the scenes and are always ready to help. They can keep in touch with you over these networks and will then know when you have new promotions up, new products etc., and they won't have to wait for your weekly newsletter either.
