Facebook have been talking about launching a search product for quite a while now but the rumours haven's said whether it is just based on social search i.e other users recommendations or whether it will be a full blown search engine designed like google and yahoo etc..

Yes it is true that Facebook is also in Search Engine business but Facebook Search Engine will be based on Personalized Search that will be a great rival for Google General Search. Google is in process of personalized search but still not having great success in recent times. Lets see when Facebook launch its Search Engine and what will be the success rate?

when i do a search on facebook, actually Bing SE will come out and index the result pages, but it is very hard way for FB to challenge Google

It is just like where Google is facing the challenge to take over the social media battle there facebook is striving to win over the search engine market share.

Yes, my ears have even heard the statement that says, if you dont have an orkut account, you haven't experienced anything in the world!

LOL you want a list? Two of which I found in a search was Location and Instant search...

Here is an interesting page. It actually lists some of their patents Google Patents, and this was written in 2010... Can't imagine how that list has grown.
