I don't know, is this true or not? But guys you can check yourself..
Facebook is publishing our phone numbers.
Just go to Account, then click on Edit Friends, then click on Contacts.
You will see your number, I don't know its private or public..
If its private its good if not then we are in deep trouble, isn't it??

I did a little digging, and it turns out that it stores the numbers as a sort of contact list. It is not shown publicly, and you can actually disable it if you wish to. Will quote from FB

Phonebook contacts

Facebook Phonebook displays contacts you have imported from your phone, as well as your Facebook friends.

If you would like to remove your mobile contacts from Facebook, you need to disable the feature on your mobile phone and visit this page. The Link then takes you to:
Remove imported contacts
Imported contacts are displayed on your Invites and imported contacts page and synced mobile contacts are displayed in your Facebook phonebook. Contacts may be used to improve the quality of friend suggestions for you and your friends.

If you remove imported and synced contacts:
Friend suggestions for you and your friends may become less relevant.
Your phonebook will no longer include synced contacts, but will still display the contact info of friends who have included it on their profiles.

Note: Before you click Remove, you need to make sure syncing is switched off.
To do this, open the Facebook application on your iPhone, click the Friends icon in the main menu, then click Sync in the upper-right.

You can set it i mean there is option in privacy that you can customize it, if you wanna show it then it will be show if you don't want to show it then facebook don't show it automatically.

Displaying your phone number is optional you can choose to hide it if you like. I've known it since I first created my account and I chose to reveal it.

yes.There are privacy settings not only in Face book all the social media has the features.Imported contacts are a facility that you use or disable it.I rarely use that as I have worked in social media development firm for quite short while.

First question is Why You publish personal data in sh*** profiles on sites like fb? did You like phone-spam? Sure probably all of this features can be disable/ enable by users at the same as hackers stealing db contacts Dont You afraid this?
