the strangest thing is that EVERYONE is buying into facebook and twitter pages now days. If I look at any locally produced TV show, they all have social network pages. Even the adverts between the shows. I thought it was ridiculous at first, but I see it now. If these shows or products were picked up by overseas companies, it would be a good thing yea? I just haven't really gone to see how popular these pages are.

Do any of your shows at home advertise social network pages?

    Re : Facebook for marketing

    Hi,
There is much more to marketing on Facebook than just creating a profile. Keeping your fans engaged is the key.

There I agree. Its a personal approach to marketing your business. You keep in touch with your supporters and let them know what your company is up to. It's also a great way to advertise promotions etc. Which is why I can see why many of our local businesses are adopting it on TV adverts and shows. It's to build a fan base.

As most of the guys knows that the success of your marketing campaigns depends on your business relationships. Facebook helps you a lot to build some good relationships with your clients and business partners. In the start it is quite difficult to just START. I mean when you just made a page and *0* likes of the page are pretty annoying, but their is nothing to worry and I will advise you to not make your self worry by setting up a target like in a week you will manage 500 likes. Just forget about any target.
As a first step suggest your page to your friends and start a little activity so the page looks alive but before that don't forget to build your page give every little detail in the information of the page.
Now search for the business pages which are relevant to you choose the five pages and participate in the discussions and do some activity than share the links of these pages on your page and and of your page on these pages. You will start getting likes and your page will become more and more active. Just don't forget the keypoint here which is patience keep your patience do not make your self in hurry to increase the likes just be loyal to the every one and don't focus on the advertisement of your website. In few months you will see the great results.

I think when they create any new internet marketing material, they should have the headline that "patience is a virtue". In any area of internet marketing being hasty often gets you nowhere. I know everyone wants to rank well and have many conversions, but it takes time to:

    A) Build trust in a consumer to use your product or service
    B) Get a website noticed, indexed and well ranked.

Using facebook as a platform is excellent, but so many want the quick fix and they want it now, and they would do practically anything to do it. I prefer to think of IM as an art. Where it takes time to craft a site into a reputable business and you would work on it bit by bit everyday to perfect it. If you do this well, everything else falls into place and it makes your life easier and you see better results.

So yea, you need to relax, drink loads of coffee, and just add a little to your artwork daily. Stick to your plans and do them as best you can. Interact with others in your niche to help guide you in the right direction, interact with the people you want to sell your product or service to. Which brings me to another point. There is a REALLY old country song I used to sing a lot when I was a child. It's called the Gambler by Kenny Rogers. ( Sounds corny, but let me finish).

The Chorus reads, you gotta know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away and know when to run.
That sentence means more to me than just a song chorus because I can implement that sentence in everyday life.
Know when to stay in the game ( keep plodding along and working on a project day by day ( or potential customers) until you finally get that sale)
Know when to move on, realize that a certain tactic used is not working and leave it be and try something different, being pushy generally gets you nowhere.
the last two are self explanatory and luckily I have never needed to do either of them.

All I am trying to say is this. Being an internet marketer is like being an artist. If you work well, and your sites are running perfectly and you are making the amount of money from them that you would like, you would undoubtedly make a name for yourself and the companies you work for simply because you perfect your art in your own way, slowly, with care and honor. If you approach it as a money making tool, you already have one foot out the door. You will make a name for yourself alright, but the downfall of the companies you worked with would not be worth it unless you take the time to perfect your craft.

Exactly. I am primarily from an IT background and loved the way things change all the time. While you're still learning about one specific tool or gadget, another one takes its place that makes the one you're looking at seem archaic. IM is the same in many ways. You start off with a plan, but end up tweaking it a few times before you're happy, because IM is always changing. But even so, there are many fundamental areas that never do. Honor, Integrity, Honesty, Humility, Perseverance etc.

It's fast paced and exciting, and I am loving every minute of it, ups and downs included.

Very true... I didn't talk too much around about my profession and passion 'internet marketing' with the people, because it makes me kind of depress when every one thinks about in terms of money and they don't want to think beyond. Due to this reason we are not able to understand the beauty of internet marketing which is exchange of knowledge word ideas, solutions of many problems and making your own community which have same mindset as you have which is nearly impossible in the physical world.
I don't feel embarrass to confess that I am not making much money because I am working for a company which does not pay me much but I don't need much also even i don't have time to think about it because all the time my mind is fully focused in doing what I want to do and I consider it as a blessing.

Precisely. IM should never really be mainly about money. I believe that money is the byproduct of a job well done. One should never strive for the money, but for the perfection of your style of IM. The rest follows naturally afterwards. I am not ashamed to tell anyone that I am an IM. I am proud of it. I do get a little annoyed that people immediately assume that I am a spammer, spending hours online posting everywhere and anywhere I can to make sure my projects succeed.

I added a new post in the internet marketing general talk thread. The post works three ways for me.
Firstly, it shows people how I work, and what I believe.
Secondly, it shows others that they can do the exact same thing because of my previous background with IM and SEO, and
Thirdly, its my part to try show spammers that what they are doing is the wrong way of going about IM, and that there is an easier way to get things done legitimately, so that maybe some day the first thought people would have about IM is that it is an honorable and exciting job.

I must say that I'm 110% with Wiliam and Phonyx on most of their points and that these are some of the key points of being successful IM.
Also one great IM said it one time "Help others to be successful and your success will come naturally",
in other words don't think of building website or blog just for sake of money making,
you need to think this way: "how I can help others with my knowledge?" or "what are the problems most people are facing while doing this or that and how can I help them?"
I see lots of new IMs just thinking of money and how they can get as much as possible soon as possible, this is not good business concept and will sure not go well...
Long term planning, user/members trust building, good relationship, success of your users, etc are some of the key points if you want to have and run successful business and healthy relationship with your users/members.

    Morning (or afternoon...)

Exactly. If there was a way I could get people to rethink the way they do IM, I would believe me. It can all cause a chain reaction and leave everyone in a better position. If you "pay it forward" and do something good for someone, then good will return to you. But then again. (I also think that there should be a global discount for Internet marketers when they buy coffee many of us tend to live on it.)
wouldn't it be a good thing if all the ethical IM's got together and put a campaign together to teach, help and guide people away from becoming spammers or otherwise unethical IM's?

Nice one about coffee, I'm real addict!

I think that most of them are generally "good" , but they are drown to that "dark" side of IM by other few marketers who are in quest for some big $ (hit and run type),
so they are all been sold the same old story " I made this amount of $$$$ in 7 days" or so... and this is were the real problem is...
So they waste some of their money and quite a lot of time doing that "shady" things and constantly searching new ways to trick the system, but in the end they are left with quite lot of wasted time in on wrong things, little earned money, and without real knowledge and real plans for the future and then inevitable happens, they said IM sucks and you can't earn by IM, I'm going to my old 9-5 job in supermarket or office desk clerk or whatever...

And that is where they make their biggest mistake. IM can be really rewarding if you just put the right amount of effort into your work. Making sure you work by the rules and keep an honest approach when you sell a product. If you knew HOW many emails I delete from my junk mail everyday where people try to sell me the latest quick fix. If it wasn't for the fact that the emails are all auto-respond emails, I would surely have given them a piece of my cluttered mind.

FB is cheap - it costs relatively little to create a FB page for a business.
The cost is then the time required to interact with others via the page.

If a business wants an instant solution then FB is not the answer.
In this case paid advertising is the answer.

When it comes to marketing the business has to pay in one of two ways - MONEY or TIME.
