It is possible if you have some service to offer, but not much likely, you can't expect to earn much from it, it is better that you buy some chep .info domain if you are on the budget.
Your own domain will look much more professional
Had free domain on geocities, no much success, now I always use .com or .net
It is possible if you have attracting content. Many 18+ sites often use free domains, and still get hits because they link directly to the site. But it is always easier with a paid domain, no matter how cheap it is. As long as it isn't in <yoursitename>.freesite12345.wantyourstoo.co.cc format.
People often avoid sites with free domains.
if your low on budget,then using blogspot and wordpress blogs are a better way to start as they are well monitored by search engines and easy to use.
But i use .com domains as they look bit professional.
Also .info is still easy to get as they are very cheap!!
If you are going to earn some money or building business site much better is to get commercial domain. Free domains are usually used form spammy sites or for little sites for informational purposes.
Remember that your domain is one of main factors which represents you to the visitors.
If you doing real things, use real domain for that purpose.
Of course, I would suggest you to use Adsense. It's a very strong and reliable source of money. All you need to know is the monetizing techniques, if you're good with that, you'll have money flowing in withing no time!
thanks for these tips you have shared with me, some of those are useful indeed and im going to do it especially the tip posted by our own azmo. my target would be adults and all of the stuff related to it.
It is not possible to monetized a free domain. Because those all are spammed & contain third parties advertise. If you want to earn money online it is better to buy a domain at cheap cost. Obviously you should ranked your site up PR+1 on Google search engine.

We can make money but we need to work harder than we on .com TLD domains.
Nearly all affiliate programs and ad programs require you to have a site with your own domain name at least. I don't think they believe you are serious enough unless you have your own domain at least.
Also building up a good site in someone else sub domain can be very risky. If you would lost all you content if them terminate your account. Even lets say they give you a content backup, then when you restore it in another sub domain or domain you loose all your previous search engine rankings.

that was kind of a waste, but just make all of them into small niche websites, slap some content on, seo a bit, then they could be used to get some good backlinks for a main website.
Many free site providers allow monetization, as long as you stick to their terms and conditions.
Some (eg Hubspot) take a percentage of your Adsense earnings.
As others have already said, it is preferable to monetize your own domain.
Then you are not at the mercy of the free website provider who can ban your site, or change their terms and conditions.
I agree - Blogspot and Wordpress seem to be big and powerful enough to worth monetizing.
I dabble a bit in HubPages and Squidoo <- but they're out to make money off of YOUR efforts. Better to use them as an AUTHORITY you can leverage - than as a business model to sink your life into.

First I though you are talking about domains without online sites. Then I understood what you really asked. Yes its possible. try these domains co.cc, co.cz
or blogger. I saw many people promote amazon products and adsense from their blogger blogs. Some people earn $1000 + with just a blogger blog. I don't recommend hub pages now a days because they take 60% of your clicks and hub pages are not that famous, I mean every page. Not the home page and main site pages.
But relaying on those free domains which you don't know is a great risk. You can earn but what if owners take back the domains or cancel your account ? you will loose all your SERP and content. A total lost and you ll need to start all over again. For example Blogger don't like 100% affiliate blogs. If they find you have a blog filled with affiliate ads in every post then delete it giving you various reasons ( Being there) If you backup your content after each post at least you can salvage content and restore into your own Wordpress blog but you will loose all the backlinks and traffic you work so hard to get.
This is why I use these free domains or sub domains to make web 2.0 properties. That way you get full use of those free resources and also it won't hurt your earnings if you loose it.
You can make tones of money with free domains . What u do is sell afflaite products on the site . It easy to start up new site and you can go into many niches. The best free domain is blogger and no adsense share
