Google plus via free exhcnage sites

I had started to use the various exchange sites often listed here to get some google plus ones for my site (main page and sub pages).

This worked well and then suddenly over night the figure halved. I can imagine some falls would be due to people then un-clicking, but a sudden drop all in one go after several days looks more likely to be related to something else?

Are google getting wise to this sort of thing? how safe are these sites to use?

i also use these kind of sites to get goole +1 but it seems no harm to me...
