I think it copies some data from Alexa. It does not calculate rank on its own but shows the Alexa rank. It also does not estimate the value of a site. Domain Appraisal is the main function of many sites that evaluate sites.

Alexa also does not do everything for free now. Earlier Alexa were programed to tell all the backlinks but now Alexa tells us about handful of links only.
