Thread: Internet Blackout in SOPA Protest

There is lot of News around the world that Major Internet Websites are going to be Blackout against SOPA for One day i.e on 18th Jan 2012.

Reditt - big in Internet is also going to be Black for 1 Day. Read it blog.reddit -- what's new on reddit: Stopped they must be; on this all depends.

WordPress has even taken a stand on this issue. This is a break in their policy because they feel that the issue is of such great importance. In the news block of your admin section there is a link to their blog post - recommended reading!!

Wikipedia will also be getting involved in the protest against SOPA and PIPA and will blackout for 24 hours. They consider the protest a global action and not just a US-only action. There is a whole page written about this by its executive director at Wikipedia.org.

GoDaddy came out in support but after losing thousands of accounts in direct protest to that support, they backtracked. Ron Paul is one of the only politicians who is sounding the alarm, and the only presidential candidate (at least, that I'm aware of) who has spoken out against this.

Scary times. New Years, after midnight, Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act that gives presidents the power to label anybody a terror suspect, and either arrest them without showing probable cause, and either detain them, indefinitely without a trial or lawyer, or simply to assassinate them. And that is already law. Congress passed it (both houses) and president signed it.

Google will also participate on the said protest. Geeezz.. I might sound freak but the rumors about 2012 end of the world does make sense now. Internet is also affected by it.

This bill is largely targeted at China wholesale sites as well. Many of these sites use branded keywords such as "Nike", "Adidas", etc. for SEO traffic.

i don't know what will happen to IM industry and also entertainment industry if this bill really put on the net, youtube and facebook user become liable because user will share anything they like, oh come on, what we are going to do on the net if everything is blocked. nonsense!

Aye, that may be true, but it was for a good cause. I have done a little reading about the subject and think that, even though they were down for a few hours, it was a big deal for them to do what they did. Which leads me to think that they have good reason for doing it as well. Everything is back up and running, or should be, so tis not a huge problem anymore
