    Fish lovers come here

Hello fish lovers, post a pic of your fish (no need to be the original pic) and tell something about why you like them and how long you are keeping them. My fish is Arowana, 2 golden aros about 12 inches long. I have them for nearly 4 years. I have an idea to buy 2 more red aros within this year The aro in the pic below is not my aro, but my aros are also look like the same. I hope my aros will live 30+ years !!!! the oldest aro in the world (not in wild) living now is 40+ years. If someone interested, I will post it's pics.

I have Discus fish. They need lot of attention and money. But these guys are wonderful. You need to do a water change (1/2) nearly everyday. Also they need special fish food which is made specially for Discus fish. Have to think about temperature and tank size too.

    Its beautiful

I have Koi, and as yet they live in a huge tank that takes around 250l of water. I don't have the heart to put them in a pond because of the cats and birds in the neighborhood, so they live inside where I can talk to them every day. I have about 5 at the moment, and out of the five, three are show quality. They don't enjoy Koi pellets though, so they have a diet that consists of Flakes (Liu Kang adores them), snails, ( I actually farm them in a tank for them). There is one more i feed them, but do it so rarely because I have to breed them myself in a water and salt solution so that they hatch out of their eggs and I can then feed them to the Koi and my other fish. They look like microscopic shrimp really. Not sure what they're called.

You know Kois like to eat green leaves too. You know types we make salad. Also I think they will prefer the pond if its deeper and bigger. You can put a metal net over it.

This is the oldest arowana in the world at the moment (not in wild)

According to it's owner, this arowana is 40 years old and it lives in this same glass tank for nearly 40 years. Still looks very healthy. If anyone need all pics, I can pm the link or if admin is ok, i can post here all pics.

The net would hurt them if they jump. One of my show Koi, Quan Chi, loves jumping at the end of the day when the weather's cooler. I had to have the tank lid custom built so that when he jumps he doesn't get hurt.

There are metal nets which comes with a rubber coating. That's the type should use. Post a photo of this Koi of yours.

Will see if I can get them to stand still today and post an image here for you guys. I have 3 now, A gold one, white one and an orange one. they have two "goldfish" mates that they swim around with. I find these are the best companions for them because Koi love fast swimming fish, like themselves

Oh yea, lol which is why they have no greenery in their tank at the moment. I usually let them eat their plants and then remove them for a while so that the plants can be put into a barrel to "regenerate" of sorts. At one point I used to "farm" snails for my koi as well. It's fascinating watching them take the snail shell apart. Excpet my gold Koi, Quanchi. he tends to choke on them, so I have to try catch him to get the snail out of his mouth.

here you are. The bright orange on is Liu Kang, the small white one is raiden, the gold one in the distance is Quanchi, and the two goldfish are Bowie (the dark one with the most orange) and the white one is called Kronos.

It seems that you are pretty much interested in fish and stuff like that. I would like to know some more interesting facts and things about fish if you have any as I am not much into fish and aquatic world but i wish to be.

It all depends on the fish you want. Each of them have their own special requirements as far as tanks and food right down to water temperature and whether it needs a salt water tank or a freshwater tank. Do you have any type of fish in mind?

From what we can tell Liu kang (the orange one) is male. but its hard to say really. The tank they live in isn't the best example of a breeding ground for them. As for bowie and kronos, are they male and female? I only ask because if they do, then they clearly don't like each other

From what I have learned, Koi in particular need really cold water for them to breed well. I think raiden (the little white one) is still too young, and quanchi (the gold) is too fussy maybe. Aall they really want nowdays is food and swimming space. And the more food liu kang has the happier he is.

It's probably going to be a better bet to speak to pet store owners about that. I'm not entirely sure whether or not a person is actually allowed to keep jellyfish. If you are, you are definitely going to need a saltwater tank. IMO those are a lot more finicky than a freshwater tank. With freshwater tanks you need to keep an eye on PH levels, as many fish are sensitive to certain water ph's. You also need to make sure that you have a decent amount of good bacteria in the tank, as well as, depending on the fish again, you need to keep water temperatures constant. Saltwater tanks transcend all that. You need to make sure that your salt levels are constant, as too much salt makes the water toxic and will in all likelihood kill your fish. Not only that, but salt water tanks have special filters built onto the tank. Some would take a normal tank, and then build the filter out of another tank that is kept below the tank they are going to use. This tank is then divided into compartments with many different kinds of materials that will filter the water and keep salt levels constant. I also think that salt water tanks need to have their water replaced a lot more frequently than freshwater tanks. lol which is one of the reasons I only have freshwater tanks.

@ Blue Ellison : Well unless you are an advanced aquarists, better forget about Jelly Fish. These guys need LOT of care and money. They need cylinder shaped tanks and also flowing water, special filters need so those won't be able to suck the jellyfish. There are many more other things.

    Check this Video - > http://www.youtube.com/v/AnYj2KG3X4Y&hl=en_US&

@ Phoenyx : Your tank is not big enough for breed Koi. Also fish like Koi and Gold fish Stunt in small size tanks specially Koi. It's hard to gender your Shubunkin pair. But Male gold fish get white color tiny spots on their grill plates in their mating season. specially in summer. No they don't need cold water. I live in a tropical country where temperature is always over 28c but they breed here fine. But the fry needs a good oxygen flow and quality food if you want it to survive.

We have had instances where one of our shebunken did have little ones, we saw her frantically swimming, brushing herself up against the water plants, with our orange shebunken right by her side. then it was battle stations to get the plants out of the tank before everyone indulged in caviar We fed the fry a mix of flakes that were specifically made for babies and brine shrimp. Sadly, because of her age, she is no longer with us, but we had the pleasure of having her with us for almost 11 years. I'm not really keeping fish to breed them. My fancy tailed guppies are on their own missions lol as well as my swordtails, dalmatian mollies and my danio's.

I just feel that it gets a bit much when you have to keep an eye on the babies all the time and make sure the bigger fish don't get to them, which is why I put a nursery tank together for them. But it get's a bit much after a while. The parent fish can really be ravenous sometimes.
