If it is distasteful and unjustified, the only reaction should be to defend your close friend. I'm sure she would do the same for you.

I'm as straightfroward as those people. I might really confront them but in a calm manner still. I don't brag fights.

Since you admire and respect these people, the best way is to tell them honestly that the person they are commenting is your friend in a non-aggressive manner. If you can try to give some good comments/feedbacks to counter their judgement against your friend of course with justification.
