    Same hosting for Forum?

    Hello,

Do Forums need different server and hosting compare to websites?

Where should one look if you want to create a Forum like IMT?
And free themes or paid themes are good for forums?

As long as you have a mysql database available you can install a forum on your hosting account. If you are on shared hosting and your forum becomes popular you may run into TOS or performance problems, at which point you can move your forum to an appropriate server. This forum has been moved at least once as it has become more popular.

We have moved twice so far and I think we will stay here only adding resources if and when needed...
For starter forum you can use shared hosting and later if forum gets popular then you can move to VPS or even dedicated hosting.

Only advice I can give is never use free hosting or budget hosting providers who offer 1$ hosting for your forum if you are serious about your forum. Best low cost hosting providers for forum hosting are Hostgator and Godaddy.

you can start for a shared hosting service, avoid free ones if you want to make it serious. like it was said before, if it starts making money and big traffic than go for vps but it takes more money.

tech stuff - any service with cpanel is good

    hi,
if you want to start a forum try to get a shared linux based hosting from a good data center. when you order for the shared hosting it will be worth getting a dedicated IP for your website also as forums will tend to have lot of emails sent to the members.

once the forum get's popular try to move your website from the shared hosting to a vps or a dedicated linux based server or even switch to linux cloud hosting.

hope this will help you to take your decision wisely.

    kindest,
    abhishek kundu
