Download speeds will depend on many things, probably the least of which is your FTP client. The most common limitation is your ISP service provider. Download speeds depend on your service account and there are speed limits which are different for basic accounts than for premium accounts if offered. There may also be limits on the server at your hosting provider, and ultimately can depend on how busy the server is while you are downloading the file. Also the pipes from your host to the Internet Backbone can limit speeds. You don't have a direct connection between your computer and the server. The download path would be from your server through your hosting company's interface to the Internet. Then along the way the data will pass through various routers and switches to your ISP. The ISP maintains its own routers to route the signal to your IP. Any of the nodes along the way can limit the download speed.
