Thread: Pictures for website?

Hello,
How do you guys get pictures for your website? i mean lets see, you have a seo related website and you wrote articles on SEO, so how do you get images or pictures for that particular article/?

Through Google?? Do you use others images? what id they take action against you, using there pictures without their permission??

Please do let me know!! Its really important.

There are many free image sites as well as paid (usually small price) sites. Some have a free section and a paid section. A search for 'free images' or 'stock photos' should return many sources. Perhaps others will list sites that they use.

I would stay far away from Google Images if I were you. Some photo agencies uses bots to crawl the web looking for copyright infrictions. Once they get you they will send you a bill with a mid $xxxx fine.

Best place to find free stock photos is sxc.hu, best paid used to be istockphoto.com. Although istock nowadays isn't as good as it used to be.

There has been a lot of talk about using other image but your own on a site. I generally use works from deviant art, but then I link to the stockers when I use their images. But this is mainly on my own deviant art page. There are a lot of stockers in DA that allow you to use their work on other sites, you just have to read their rules and work within them. I do the same thing in blogs, and sites. stock.exchng has many really high quality images you can use, and I generally use them for tutorials, and this helps me link back to the stock photographer. I then also send them a note letting them know that I have used their images at a site so that they can have a look. Some allow you to use their images without restriction, but some have really strict rules about what you can and cannot do with their work. Best thing you can do is make sure you read everything carefully and make sure you stay within those guidelines.

it's not as open source as you think, and yes, people can stop you. Trust me. There are sites like Getty Images that actually crawl the web looking for areas where their images are used. Many sites follow the same course. If they find you using their images and their rules or guidelines were not followed, you will be in a lot of trouble.

Do you follow them to the actual site to see what their usage rights are?

the ethical way is to take your own pictures or buy them from stock sites. Most people just use google image

No way. Certainy you can download a picture to your desktop and using in any website, but thats unethical and although you can do it with nobody watching you, believe me, federal laws every day are more strong and they can and will catch you. They are the law, and there is something called Copyrights that they take seriously.

Hahahaha. I have actually received one $xxxxxx bill for using some images on a wordpress blog. They have tried to threaten me like this and that. Those images which were on one blog at that time, Now almost on 16 blogspot and wordpress blogs because I was really scared

You can try searching for "public domain images". These are totally free and OK to use.

Google is my source for images.. If somebody is lucky then I give credit for him. lol

flickr, do an advanced search, click on for commercial use with the creative commons license.

I've heard of nightmares from people who hire poor web design firms that use images illegally from Google images--getting fined tens of thousands of dollars--make sure wherever you get your images from you have a license or permission to use them--in writing.

You should use the advance search option in google which you tick which i think is "for commercial use with modification". then you wont get smashed by the authorities.

I rarely feel like using pictures searched on the net. I prefer designing my own pictures/images for uniqueness. I would therefore recommend to all web site designers to learn graphic designing. One can always teach himself/herself as long as you buy the designing software like CorelDraw.
