How to make a link redirect?

I joined an affliate program recently. The thing is the link shows: h t t p :/ /a f filiateprogra m. we bsho p. c om/etc. This is looking kinda cheap so I'd rather have a link on my own page which redirects to the affiliate link.

Does anyone know how this is possible. I always thought you could do that with a htaccess file? Does anyone have an example of this?

I do this with a php 301 redirect. You create a php file with the redirect code and you can name it whatever you want like 'yourbestdeal.php'. Then link to the file that you have created. There are only two short lines required in the php file and you can make it in notepad. Just do a search for php redirect if you are interested in that approach.

Thank you for your answer wink0r. I just found a htaccess 301 redirect which could be even easier. Thing is, when I upload the .htaccess file I'm getting a 500 internal server error .... I tried everything, so I just asked it to my hosting provider. For some reason they disable a lot of functions, I even had to ask if they would put php on.

Anyway, thank you for your suggetion!

Care must be taken when dealing with the .htaccess file as a mistake can break your site. My hosting company runs a syntax check script on any changes to the .htaccess file.

The affiliate links in my sig use the php redirect. Hover over them to see how they look.

Check your syntax and if rewrite engine is on...
Alternatively you can use some URL shortener

    Alright! It's working!

They (the hosting company) took a look and apparently they had to put something on. Well, they didn't told me what was wrong, but I downloaded the .htaccess file and they didn't made any changes to it.

    Thanks for your time.

301 redirect is the best method for creating the redirect link. It is efficient and search engine friendly method for moving the web page. It is very easy method and it preserves the rank of your web page. When you redirect through this method it is permanently moved and it is the safest method.
