Scope creep in cusotmised web design and development

I have been often developing customized websites to the clients:well its a known fact that the customised ones are generally unstructured and often end up with a scope creep:

While i understand that small changes are inevitable to the defined scope by the client,my query is.. what is the best possible action when the entire scope of the design has been changed after the completion of the project( taking every thing step by step , getting approvals timely) and finally they say its not the one that we have in mind:Also I would not like to be seen as the money grabbing company as you know most of the clients are unaware of how design and development effort costs us: They just know that their pocket has been emptied more: Whats the right action under such circumstances

I understand your concern and can say that this is quite a headache for you. But I can say you can avoid these possibilities in future times if you learn how to deal and avoid the scope creep of a web project.
    DO these at first place:
    1. Set all the clear expectations with the client even before the project starts.
    2. Get a hand written document with your client (a formal contract), including all the project details and requirements.
    3. Mark and agree a specific completion date to the project.
    4. Use PERT chart for designing and assigning the deliverables.
    5. Set a scope creep allowance.
