Thread: Do you like a landing page?

I think a landing page on a site is pretty cool. Nothing spectacular, just simple. I like to put a banner/huge image, maybe a video and then a skip option to go right to the site. Does anyone else like this? Or would you rather people go right to the main page of the site or forum?

Personally, if I am very interested in information that I know the site offers I might click through. If I am looking for something less specific I am likely to bounce. Have you ever seen a big successful site with a page like you describe? Most ecommerce sites list their specials and a quick nav to their departments. Others may open to a site search splash screen.

Search engines are going to send people to the specific page within the site that contains the requested information. Regular users of the site are likely to bookmark the page that they would go to after the splash screen unless it contains constantly changing information of interest to them.

Landing page is very important especially when you want to collect the e-mail of your visitors to build list.

Sometimes simple is efficient. I`m one of the visitors willing to find the information in one place, displayed in a logical and attractive way

Landing pages aren't really my thing. I believe it detracts from the site. I have a feeling that most people would leave the site if they're forced to a front page, splash screen or whatever they call them these days. People like to get right to the point, so don't let them wait anymore. I think the best option is no splash screen or anything to slow users down. Just have a cool home page and you should be fine.

It depends on the type of site you are making. If you are selling only one product then you can have the type of landing page you talked about but if your website is doing something more than selling a single product then you need something more that can give an overview of your website to anyone in just first look.

Maybe they aren`t used with the idea. Visitors are like children, you have to draw their attention, before effectively enjoying that thing. I remember that when the company that I work for, launched a landing page for one of its new services, it was accompanied by a contest. In this way visitors were persuaded to pay attention

Even though the OP calls it a landing page what is described is a splash screen that is seen by visitors that just enter the domain name into the browser address bar:

A landing page, as you are thinking of it, can be anywhere on the site. It is not necessarily the home page. It is any page to which you direct traffic probably through off site advertising as well as an internal link. You might have a special offer or a freebie and an email capture form would typically be a major feature.

Landing pages are something, which helps many business owner in optimizing their website, but it is good or bad both depending on the nature of your business. If you are selling something, then it is adviceable to target main pages with details information or at-least try to provide with complete information to a user when he is landing on your landing page so that he do not have to visit here and there.

There are two angles in this concept. It it is a product based or business oriented then people need to be get attracted to it, so that the landing page must be beautiful design wise. Coming to knowledge base, users will regularly visit a site to read the regular articles to learn new things, here we have no need of good design, here content does matters. So in this way we have to analyze our purpose.

A perfect landing page should be user-friendly because you are intersecting with customers therefore it should be user-friendly. Unfortunately in past people build websites for search engines, now the trend and demand both have been changed. Now there is more need to build user-friendly websites and landing pages instead of search-engine friendly.

How a days every one is browsing internet using their
smart phones, tablets, iphones and ipads. So the responsive
revolution came. User interface playing an important role
in attracting a visitor in his first attempt.
Especially the shopping sites nothing but ecommerce sites
are making their landing page as beautiful and attractive.
So the user regularly visit that site again.

i like the that has logo on the left top navigation on the right top and get a quote on very top of the right side. then a big image slider in the center. then services then your portfolio then your social pages and bottom navigation.

no i do not like landing page concept because Google do not consider it.

I think a landing page is useful in several ways,... but bottom line is, they are the best way to build list for e-mail marketing?
