    Sidewide Backlinks?

    Hey guys,

what do you think bout sidewide (back)links? As an example, from the content of a sidebar.
Will big G give me a "bad guy" stamp for that?
Do they any harm on my site after penguin?

Found some reports, but some people say, sidewide is good, other say, sideway is bad ...
So, someone have made some experience with the sidewides?

    regards,
    lmpro

I've heard about sitewide backlinks but never about sidewide...
Anyhow if you are tihnking about sitewide backlinks then it is not a good idea to get/build them for many reasons.

*oops* i have to refresh my english.

I have already some sitewide BL on different sites i manage. Could you please tell me a little more bout "not a good idea to get/build them for many reasons" Nemenja?
Is it better for ranking to show that links only on one page? Or kick them from sidebar although they are relevant niches?

    regards,
    lmpro

The best thing for you, as I have suggested that to many of newcomers, is to read and test and to read and test some more and more and then some more....etc , I'm serious BTW
OK to give you the easy answer, it is considered link spam, because obviously you are buying links and it is not natural to have 1000 links pointing back to your URL from same domain using same anchor, same IP, etc...
So it is not editorial, natural link that google is searching for, instead it is considered semi-spam or spam, depends on situation...
But you can have them without a problem if they are no-follow and marked as paid links, if your goal is only to get traffic, awareness, branding, etc from some high impact website.

I'm no pro but I don't think I agree fully. Many sites still use a blog roll to point to sites their readers might like. I do agree you should not build a ton of them but I don't see anything wrong if it is in the same niche. I do believe though that Google doesn't look at them as "1000" links but as 1 or at least a lower amount.

I guess my point is that I don't think Google is going to hold it against you if other blogs link to you in the sidebar of their blog because they want to share your blog as "blogs I follow".

    Nemanja:
    thx for your assessment. :-)
in first step, i changed that links in sidebar to show only in a special category, and inside the cat i show different text, different keys and link to different targets. Hope, that will help to get better ranking.

    vf8170:
that was my first thought, too. But didnt know, if it really helps to improve ranking, so i asked.

Try now without that sitewide links and wait if something changes, up or down.
    thx for helpin a newbie

    regards,
    lmpro

I personally would not go out looking to build those links. I would leave it up to other blogs to link to me on their own if they wanted to. I personally just keep that kind of linking totally natural but do not ask for them to take them down.
