There are a few ways, either with tools, or by consulting Google or any other search engine. I know with Google, you can use links:url and it shows you sites containing that url.

You can use FF plug ins like seobook or similar to do this, or on few sites, more info here:

As I am new in this forum I can't post live links here, but I know two of them:

w*w.opensiteexplorer.org/ and w*w.linkdiagnosis.com/ (change "*" to "w" to make links working). The first one is a tool part of seomoz, so to receive full data you need to be a PRO member. But a free trial also gives you some nice data.

The second tool is absolutely FREE, but you have to instal their Mozilla Firefox plugin. But it will provide all the data about competitor links you need.
    Good luck!

Check this website smallseotools.com. There's a tool you can use for checking backlinks. Other tools are also included like spinner, pinger, plagiarism checker, etc. Hope I helped.

Yes, you can use Market Samurai (Paid tool) as well as SEO Quake with FireFox to check your competitor's site status, other than that specifically to check their backlinks, you can backlinkwatch.com

Yesterday I used this fiverr gig for my strongest competitor Durjoy2k will create your competitors backlinks and anchor text reports via ahrefs and majestic seo, + free penguin recovery guide for $5, only on fiverr.com

Well worth the money, it gave me 5 excel spreadsheets of highly detailed backlinks and data from my competitor - good times!

I have tried several backlink checker tools, I think the paid one the right one to use since the free version only gives limited data.

You can get better at 'Majesticseo's clique hunter tool". This tool not only giving you the competitor back links but also compares it with your website. So smart right?

Why would you say that? Some more info would be appreciated, it might help us make a decision when choosing a rank checker

Ahrefs is the main tool I use - I gave the paid service but the free service offers 5 searches a day which isn't half bad

Which of these websites you mentioned you trust the most? Most of them show really old information (like years ago) and some of the backlinks they show are gone...

I always use Majestic SEO to analyse my competitors backlinks. After a recent update, it also shows a pie chart displaying anchor texts used.
