You're asking how to build links manually. That means not using software to do it.

Your best bet is to start with manual blog comments on blogs that are related to your niche. Just make the "name" part your targeted keyword and then post something genuine and relevant to the post. Usually it will get accepted if you add value to the blog post.

Yes, you were right. Gradually building backlinks is the best method for long term effects. However, SEO also needs a boatload of reading and not spoonfeeding.

- Listing in niche directories
- Submitting your RSS feeds to feed directories
- Submitting your website to social bookmarking sites
- Participating in social networking sites and related communities
- Writing guest posts for related blogs to your niche.
- Writing emails to other bloggers/ website owners in your niche offering them to guest post
- Writing content that is deliberately designed to attract links towards it.

If you want to build links you have to promote your site in different places like directories, article sites, blogs, forums etc.

For me, do follow blog commenting is the best choice of doing backlink manually.. the reason is you can get more knowledge and can participate into certain topic you know. Its different when you do directory submission manually....so boring and tedious work of filling website information and description

There are tons of companies that offer manual link building services, don't bother wasting your time unless you want to experience it first hand of great boredom and frustration involved with manual link building process, which I did. Need literally hundreds, if not thousands of links for any keywords that are worthwhile ranking for.

be careful when outsourcing... some services could cheat especially the services only promoted via forum.. they state they do manually but apparently they just use software

Sure, you have to test it out carefully, couple providers, and check their results to make sure what they are doing is manual. You can get 500,000 profile links done for $50 using software, but manually, it would be tough to do it under 10 cents per even if you are using cheap Asian labor, at least for postings that meets quality standards.

the best way is to check their reputation in that forum, and also review from others.. beside the trusted service providers always gain reputation according to quantity of customer sign up their service

It's basically like a telephone directory, only the sites listed. You can get your site posted here, and as a result, it has links to many other sites that are relevant to yours.
