Hi,
I just wanted to know if link wheel is white hat or black hat?
What are you using for link building mainly?
I think a link wheel is grey hat ... it depends on how you build your link wheel. Making good sites with unique content in your link wheel is much better than spamming or autoblogging sites.
How then it became grey hat?
I think it is not really white hat and not really black hat, it is in between.
yes, it is kinda black hat.
If done properly it can be white hat. But usually its considered gray/blackhat.
it depend on how you link each website, if too much same whois and same class ip hosting website, you can be caught by google
It seems to be a fifty fifty split on the net. many say its white hat, many say its black hat.
Taking a look at what they are, you could then form your own opinion. Have a read here, maybe this helps.

The basic concept of a link wheel is nothing more than creating multiple Web 2.0 properties on the Internet that inner link to each other and also link out to your main website or “money site” and in effect make a wheel of sites that link together.
Beside link wheels, i also heard about link pyramid and link magnet.. so are they also can be classified as black hat?
Hmm another grey area it seems. TBH, I wouldn't use link pyramids.I found some information about link magnets, not sure if that is what you were asking about, but this is what I could find out:
The link magnet article is from SEOmoz
And the link pyramid is from an IM blog
Read through it and tell me what you think. I did a Google search on each and believe from what I saw they have the potential to be black hat. Especially the pyramid, as it seems that it can manipulate the natural link growth on a site.
Linkbuilding needs to be done naturally i.e it needs steady growth. Unnatural link building is what sends the warning flags to Google, and that is when people lose ranking, have their sites taken down, and even their IP's banned.
There is no black hat so no.
thanks phoenyx for your great source of info, i'll read later and give a comment.. i never tried both link magnet and link pyramids, and not forget link wheel too, i'm afraid my site will get kicked from google, i'll just do manually plus with the help of IMT tools :)
How so? Can you prove that black hat does not exist? I see forums, sites, Internet marketers selling their blackhat services all over the web. Or do you believe that these methods are not black hat?
@Franberries, Thank you.
I agree though. Generally if something bothers me when doing my SEO work, like link pyramids and such, I don't try it until I know all the facts. Google wants everything to grow naturally, and there is where things can get really complicated. Because these can mess with the natural order of link building. I also stick to manual link building, the usual way, and of course with the help of Nemanja's tools.

Technically, all SEO is blackhat because it is an action being taken to intentionally manipulate search engine rankings... the real question is whether or not it matters. IMHO it doesn't.
If you use a technique and it works, keep doing it. If it doesn't, then don't.
No doubt link wheel is one of the best strategy of getting traffic and backlinks.
In my opinion it is very spammy way of getting backlinks. In fact there are many webmasters who believe that link wheeling is black hat technique. It is less organic way of backlinking, so, I would lean away from it.
Well if you think about it, even creating forum profiles for back links is sort of black hat. In no way does the forum profile add to the forum (unless you actively participate, which is impossible if you sign up for 100's), and the purpose of it is to gain a backlink ... in this case, it really isn't "natural" either as no one would build a profile to link to you for no reason.

Hi,
Link-wheel is not a black hat technique. Its a one of the best link-building strategy to gain backlinks and traffic for a site.
Linkwheel can make your site out from Google Wheel if you don't do it right. However everybody must read post # 17 of SEObunny which is enough to explain how to use a linkwheel properly.
I used linkwheel to rank my sites higher and i get good results for some very juicy keywords.
