I know that doing manual link building is very important today as Google understands our every tricks..
But there are some tools which may help us doing our link building efficiently, I'm not going to something automatically but with the help of these tools we can find the websites to build links.
For example, we can search dofollow blogs, dofollow forums, sites in any niches with the help of tools and then we can do manually.

i use tool called News Publisher for Article and Press Release Submission . it works for me very well.
You submit an article manually or using tool, it does not matter.. what matter is how google sees your backlinks.. They have algorithm to detect unusual activity, if you can defy them your automated tool will look like manual work
I think you pretty much have to use some tools to rank for decent keywords these days, or hire someone to do SEO for you. You would burn out quick trying to manually build all the links you need.
Building back-links manually is the most mind numbing activity you can do on the internet.

If you submit an article to 800 sites, how to create backlinks to them?
If you can already verify them on Google search, do you still want to bookmark them?

usually I do manual linkbuilding, the only tool I use is the website submitter of imtalk.org. Maybe I will try some tools from the post of proseocontent.
Yep, I also normally do manual links too, but have been trying out imtalk.org tools. I'll be very interested to see how things work out over the next couple of months since I'm a newbie to this site and these tools.

No. I like it better when i do it manually. It is better have quality links than trash links. most tools have spam links given.

I think the key is to build links with the natural, because google like the natural link, not directly build backlinks with excessive blast, I also continue to use tools to simplify the work, but this tool must be precise, should not make us put the website into google sandbox. I may use tool to see dofollow or nofollow blogs, such as add on firefox and see PR pages like add on Seoquake. so i still use the tool but do not overdo it. :)
Manually backlinking is the best. I have tried a couple of automation apps but i was not satisfied by the outcome at all.
Backlink building is such a boring activity so many people choose to buy tools. I have and using the following tools to build backlink:

- AMA, UAW, BMR (Private Blog Network)
- BookmarkWiz
What I want to say is, no matter how good people say about these tools, it’s all depending on the user. There is a good way and a bad way in using these tools.
