    Backlink help please

    Hi all

I'm very confused about building backlinks, is it necessary to build links that are the same genre as my site ie, i have a new contests site forumcontests.co and i am wondering where would i build some great links for this?

Any help at all would be really appreciated

    Thanks

    Brett.

Well it doesn't really matter where your links are coming from as long as they are not coming from spammy/scammyish looking sites or sites that also link out to ****/viagra/etc...

I don't think the SERP robots are that smart enough yet to determine relevancy... maybe they do but I wouldn't worry too much about it at this point of time!

Find relevant websites about "contests" and exchange links with them. Getting backlinks that is related to the niche of your website will help your ranking in SERP.

Yes, the more relevant your links are coming from the better.
And the higher the PR of the sites you get links from the better.
And the higher the ranking of the sites your getting links from the better.

So the best links you can get are from sites that have HIGH PR that are ranking top 10-20 for your search related terms i.e "contests" etc.

I think better to exchange links. We can try to send email via contacts. And put their links in advance, of course

Yes, niche related backlinks are most important... Search engines can identify irrelevant links and devalue them.
I have been using a tool called 'Keyword Country' for finding my niche related websites for backlinking... It helps a lot.

If you have nearly no links, then quickly build any links. However, relevant sites are the only ones you should work for. Find a network of blogs/bloggers to drive traffic & backlinks to you. Exchanging links with other sites like yours is a very strong move and should not be neglected either.

I would start by examining the link profiles of your top competition. Make it your top goal to acquire the same links and then also do it better than they do it. To make it even easier. Farm this out to link professionals while you drive people to your site with what they are hungry for.

A link is a link IMO. The power behind the link is if it's a) relevant to your niche, B) comes from an authority site that is within your niche, and C) not from a link farm, i.e it looks natural.
Google and all the other SE's look for this. Links that are made gradually over time, increasingly, and from sites that are well ranked, aged domains, or authority sites like .edu etc. are highly valued and can help raise your rankings.

Link exchanges are ok, but you have to be careful of them, well with any link you place online these days. One day the site might look good, but the next its linked to spammy content or a site that search engines frown on. This lowers your ranking.

Targeted links will help more, but non-targeted links generally won't hurt either. Try to do some of both to make it more natural.

I agree with 100k. All of that is true. One thing that I will add is to make sure the links you are creating are do follow links. No follow links do not add ranking to your site. I suggest you download a no follow link extension for your browser. This will highlight all no follow links on your browser so you can avoid building links on those sites.

Additionally, try not to stress about the page rank of your link. Many times the links you build go on new pages (new pages have low page rank). Just make sure you are building links in popular sites.

Personally, I use Paul's back links for a good source of links. They give you a list of sites where you can create good back links, and a step by step on how to create them. I think that, and Angela's back links (same thing different site) are a good source of back links. You can Google them to find out more.

    Hope that helps.
