One important thing to note (which applies to any back link source), if the edu or gov link is from a useless site, then the back link will have the same credibility. So a non-authoritative gov site back link for your niche is of less value than a highly respected com link for your niche.

    Thanks, have a great 2012

Area51, that text link marketplace $1 .edu offer is insane. Surely you misquoted the price...

And I totally agree--some blog comments on an edu domain don't seem to have that much effect. A well-placed contextual link inside a relevant piece of content...well, that seems to be something of the holy grail of backlinking.

As I've seen so far, according to PR, of course not all .edu's pages are same weight. So, I only chose few that have good enough PR or better (of course to leave comments. Still I chose sites/page that has post/topic which relates to my site. I never know how it is all exactly work, but I did my best so far Check this one which has PR3 and browse another page to compare. blog.nmai.si.edu/main/2011/08/storybook-readings-at-the-heye-center-in-new-york-one-consolation-for-the-end-of-summer[dot]html

    Cheers

Because .edu, .org and .gov are authoritative sites I get scared mostly when I have to use .gov backlinks. There are political institutions behind this websites and they could track us as "spammers" and penalize us.

Does somebody have experience in this terms?

    Thanks
