I think if you use Wordpress SEO plugin, you don't even need to ping your new post. My posts are automatically indexed in a minute by Google just after i publish them and i think it is because of Wordpress SEO.

I use ping services to ping my backlinks but again, you need to be careful while pinging your backlinks. I usually prefer to use ping.fm pinging services to ping my backlinks. Great results.

Even without an SEO plugin WP blogs ping Ping-O-Matic automatically for each post. Ping-O-Matic pings about 20 aggregators.

You can add ping sites in the WP admin panel under settings>writing>update services down at the bottom of the page.

If you have other feeds that you want to ping ping-o-matic builds a page that you can save to favorites. Whenever you open the page your feed is pinged. The first time you set up that page on ping-o-matic you can check the aggregators that you want to ping.
