You can get authority links – These are links from highly important websites. Those are the sites you see on top of search results for the most competitive keywords in your industry. Authority websites also include university and college domains, and government and library sites.

.edu and .gov
get a few of them under your belt
as hogward said authority links are good to get
what i also do is setup one site mainly for all those recip links to go sometimes i buy a cheap and nasty domain for peanuts thats got some pr on it this keeps my main sites clean
theres some real gem links out there to be had through recip linking
i hardly ever have links going from any of my sites unless i own the sites or the links are paid for
