though have not watched the video yes of course backlinks will surly be needed
Still the google algo is based on links as far as we know, they might be shifting slowly from it in the future by adding more and more signals, but I think links will never disappear completely or will be for a long time.
yeah, it's hard to say that backlinks will dissapear or will be totally replaced by social signals because this is the best way to promote your website in my opinion
Backlinks are one of the major factor of ranking so it will be there. At least till our retirements :D
