Thread: Google PR Update?

As far as I know Google didn't update PR for few months now.
This make me think that PR is not big ranking factor anymore in Google eyes.

PR is a way of Google telling us thevalue of your site and it is really an important factor for rankings in Google . Isn't it ? it is a way of diving websites on the basis of their relevance and value for the enduser.

I think that people are obsessed with PR from ages, but this is not true value of the website in terms of authority, trust, quality, etc...
Even Matt from Google said that PR is not only and most important thing in ranking websites, it is just one of 200+ ranking factors google use to rank pages(just google it or search youtube).

I have few websites with PR0, PR1, PR2, PR3 and they are at the top of the SERP's for some most competitive search terms beating PR7 and PR6 websites.
PR can help in rankings, but it is not crutial to rankings, there are much important factors that PR, this is from my 10+ years SEO experience...

For example look at this forum, it is number 8-9 for keyword "SEO forum" and have PR0 (and I'm not even trying hard), how can you explain that?

I have many similar examples, but I will not share that here, because I don't want to jeopardize my money making websites.

I gave you an real time example(fact), but how can you support your theory? Do you have some facts?

Just a piece of advice, don't believe everything you read, try and test things for yourself.

Im starting to believe that Google are not valuing their own page rank system as much as they once did. I agree with you Nemanja. Perhaps Google are tired of all the websites that use black or grey hat methods to gain PR with no quality about the sites.

I also think that people have become obsessed with PR and strive for higher PR on their websites rather than for higher traffic and income through good SEO. Page Rank is ultimately useless to a website unless you happen to be selling the site to a buyer that likes PR . My highest PR site is PR4 and I am happy with that. I am more interested in ranking highly in the SERPS and making $$$$ .

the little green bar thats shows PR on a Google tool bar has never had much relevance to the SERP. However, the actual PR that Google uses still is an important factor in Google's SERP. As Google has described - there are over 200 factors in their algorithm and the little green bar is not to be believed. We use SEOmoz's ranking system to get an idea how our sites related to competitors for keywords.

The actual PR that Google uses for their SERPs may be adjusted every time their bot visits your web site. So, don't pay any attention to the little green bar, its not what Google use in their algorithm.

As we all know,Google loves to surprise us.Some people says that they got update.But I had not got any update for my any site.I hope in this month end it will update and we all get good pr for our site.

This is right, green bar is near to useless, but people like it :-)

This thread surely dampens my enthusiasm for to me that green bar is everything, well, at least until now. I have a new blog, barely one week with two articles that got PR4 and first page serp in some long tail keyword like "white hat seo ping". I've been trying to rationalize it and this discussion thread could be the answer, although, not the way I would want it. Go check out my site at genarogeneta dot com and let me know what you think.

my SEOmoz toolbar shows you have two links back to your website from two domains for a SEOmoz page rank of 2.0. Now that's plenty to place you for a non competitive phrase like "white hat seo ping" - Google is only showing about 38,900 results for that phrase but when you start going for "white hat seo" with about 1,940,000 results from a Google search you will need to get a bunch more links.

PR is EVERYTHING. It is the biggest part of google algorithm. It is that green line on toolbar that means little at the moment if you know what I mean

Just look at the link selling business which is huge. No one will buy your N/A or 0 links

Thanks whitegyr! I know that white hat seo would be a long way to go but what I don't understand is the PR4 that my homepage got as pagerank from Google. I'm not complaining though. Do you think it's a glitch? If it is, don't tell Google...lol!

Just because the link selling business is huge and based on google pr doesn't mean that it is most important ranking factor.

"White hat seo" is not that hard to get in top10, submit few articles, post to some blogs(network), bookmark those links, make few blog comments and submit your website to some dirs, etc...and you will be in top 5 on google.

The PR4 that is being displayed is beyond me. I would expect no more than a PR2 that is the PA that's SEOmoz page rank and that's the most accurate assessment of a page ranking

The whole thing was built around Pagerank. If they don't show it in the toolbar it doesn't mean it is not there You know how they started to smash link buying couple of years ago ? Now it seems they simply don't bother to update toolbar as often.....

Of course google also uses other factors to determine where to put each web site but the thing is that...more backlinks you have, bigger the PR and better serps

SEO experts differentiate between two types of PageRank:-

Public PR – updates every three month (more or less)
Real PR – updates much more frequently

Lot's of people seem to have gotten excited about the PR updates. Some lost rank and others gained it for the first time.

Some were expecting more and some stayed the same. The mystery that is Google PageRank remains…how is it calculated! lol

I was caring about Google Page Rank when I love Blogging. But now a days..
