    Google does not like INFO-Domains!?

    Hi everybody,

a few days ago, I watched a report from a founder of a SEO-Company. They offer SEO-Tools, Sitereviews, Backlinkservice and are actually a big brand.

That guy said, that INFO-Domains are not very much liked by Google and I think by Google he meant to say SEs in general. He said they suffer from dumping-prices and by that from the abuse for illegal actions, like SPAM, as well as low quality content and so on.

I did some research because I didnīt believe, that SEs discredit INFO in general because this can also happen often with other TLDs.
But on the other hand itīs also that EDU and GOV domains are very liked by SEs in general.

I still have not found any logical explanation for or against this theory and due to the reason that I have some INFO-Domains and also plan to expand, I would like to know your ideas and experiences.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

    Regards,

    Costa

Hmmm, I'm not so sure about that either. See, There is one INFO site I use quite a lot, and its been around for years and years. I play a lot of PC games, but one I play more than others because I modify items for that game, and build stuff. The site in question has been catering for mods for years, and any game related search shows that site at the top of the search engines, even before the game itself at EA games. Maybe its the actions of the owners that cause Google not to like them, other than the domain extension itself.

Although there is no strong evidence about it, but heard many times that the .info domains are hard to rank for compared to any other domain. One of the many reason of being spoiled may be due to their low registration price (~$2/yr).

right, that might be the main reason.

Has anybody else got some experience about that?

.info domains get a bad rap because in their heyday they were primarily used for spammy sites pushing spammy affiliate offers. It has never been officially confirmed by Google (or any other search engine for that matter) that they treat .info domains any differently than other TLD's. However, if you are serious about your website you should strive to get a .com/.net/.org. A lot of internet users tend to avoid .info domains in light of their history.

On the other hand, I suspect that few (relatively) internet users even look at the URL if they are interested in an anchor text link. I often do, but I don't personally know anybody else that does and most don't even know how to look at a link before it appears in the browser address bar and few look at it even there. They look at the page that appears and decide if there is something of interest to them on the page.

Yes, info domains are undervalued by google. However a saw several times info domains on first page. But only with low competition. I suggest try to buy com or org domain. They are the best options.

Yes, .info domain is given less ranking in Google, but I'm not sure about other search engines like Yahoo and Bing, if they also give less ranking.

.info domain is good, it is meaningful domain, anyone can call, remember but I don't know why Google doesn't like it.

The company developed this domain extension has to bear loss really.

Well, thank you all for your replies.
Fortunately right now I have just few domains and I have my main website is a .com.

I think, the underestimation of INFO by Google also results in worse value of BLs, so I will only go for com/net/org in future.

And afterall INFO Domains ain't that cheap after the first year.

This is pretty much it because it prompted spammers (as stated above) to register them in mass. And, with some godaddy codes back in the day, you could get them for .99 with privacy. I am guilty of this, but didn't spam with them.

However, since it's a trust issue, I'm sure that if you registered the domain for 10 to 20 years, G and others would have a different view of that particular .info. Might not be a huge difference, but it would have more value than a .info reg'd for 1 year with privacy enabled.

Agreed. I don't think there is too much put on the .info domain as long as the content within it is good and the onpage SEO is correctly set up. I have .info sites ranking.

I found some .info domain have great SERP. Generally they have long ages and the article in there da*n good. Perhaps it can explain it. Google still give them good ranking because the owner built the site in the right way.
my signature is no signature.... for now.

I usually go for .com/.org/.net but if i really need EMD the .info is 4th choice, it's not really a problem if you have a good onpage site that not raised a red flag. Sure it will be more difficult but not as much.
