Are NoFollow backlinks worth the effort?

I'm new with SEO but in my experience nofollow = 0.
For example I've been building nofollow links for a couple months to my site and it didn't even get indexed! When I posted a dofollow backlink it got indexed right away.

I'm not sure if NF links count towards position and pagerank. But as I said I'm a noob.

I wonder what more experienced guys think about the matter.

In order to build a naturally looking link profile you of course also need nofollow links. Only having dofollow looks a bit strange for search engines.

Nofollow links doesnt give any backlink but it provides some traffic to a site. Dont go for dofollow sites always.

Nofollow links are ignored by Search engines, so, they are not helpful in getting website indexed.

On the hand, for driving traffic, no follow links contribute equally as dofollow links do.

From my understanding Google still looks at no follow links but doesn't add it towards your inlink count.

If all of your inlinks were 'do-follow' and you had no 'no-follow' links - Google would get suspicious.

I have tested this and have gotten sites to page one ONLY using no-follow So, to say that they aren't worth anything is crazy. I agree with Carny that you need to have a mix of BOTH do-follow and no-follow. Let's face it, Google will do WHATEVER they want to do and they aren't going to let some webmaster tell them which links to follow and which one not to!!

They may not count it towards your site, or they may. That's really up to them.

At the end of the day it is best to get a good mix of backlinks as that will diversify your structure. If you only have 1 kind of backlink that can get you into trouble if Google suddenly decides that type of backlink is worthless.

To some extent yes, but mostly not. Links from high pr sites and blogs can give certain impact on your site but from lower like less than pr4, i don't think so any.
