How important is backlinking for a site? I am working with a site that earns thousands of dollars, but the backlinks of the site is very few. How can backlinking affect the income of a site?

it is great honor to have a website that can earn thousand dollar without having much backlinks...... i would say without backlink our website is nothing to google eyes.. only if your site being promoted at national tv everyday, then you don't need any backlink to promote your website
